Any advice on where to go after the first quest (saving the brother)?
Started in Swania, party of about 10, any advice on what direction to take? Where to go? What to do?

Recently got this game too. You can do whatever you want after saving the brother. I guess find a faction you like then help them take over the map. Or you take over. Be a bandit leader. Etc

Kill looters until you get a good amount of footmen.

Then move onto forest bandits, once you get enough men at arms and knights move onto sea raiders located along the coast line near Rivacheg.

Continue to kill looters/bandits and sell their drops for cash. This can help you to fund your army early in the game.

Do quests for the lords in the game, this will allow you to raise your relations with lords. While doing quests for lords of any faction won't hurt you, I usually already have in mind what faction I want to be a vassal to and usually only do quests for the lords of that faction.

You can find tournaments in certain cities. Tournaments allow you to compete against the A.I and if you win you gain a nice lump of cash as well as gain renown. Renown is important if you want to become a vassal.

Invest in Enterprises. Each town has a guild master, who can allow you to buy enterprises within each town. Enterprises are basically businesses that provide you with a steady flow of income throughout the game. I suggest investing in enterprises very early on, this is a very important part of where alot of your money will be coming from to fund your armies.

Find Companions. Companions are special A.I that will join your army, and can be upgraded and fitted with equipment just like the player. Companions are also very important aspects in your army, as they can specialize in party skills when leveled which help your party as a whole. Companions can be found in the taverns of towns, but rotate towns often, so just be on the lookout. Also some companions don't get along with other companions, so I suggest reading the wiki to find out which companions are a good match.

Also early on in the game you may think it's a good idea to recruit men, upgrade, then rinse and repeat. However having a too large of an army early on may do more harm than good. If you're army is too large more than likely it will be very expensive to maintain, and early on money can be one of the major limiting factors in the game. Also early-game bandits will be your primary source of income, and if you're parties too large then it won't be able to chase them down. I'd usually say anywhere from 40-60 is enough until you become a vassal.

Finally once you gain a relatively strong army, if a factions is at war usually lords will be on the lookout for mercanaries who will fight on their side. As a mercenary you and the faction you work for wil both have the same enemies. You will also be expected to battle other lords and come to the aid of your allies when needed. The good thing about being a mercenary is that it's on a contract basis, meaning that once your contract is up you're not bound to that faction.

build respect with villages than lords/kings, towns not as important but can make you quite rich. Get enterprises.
