Range-wise they are the longest of them all, so you will be able to pu some distance between you and the enemy.
What the spear lacks in sheer overpowering utility, it makes up for with its mid-stance leg sweep, which can instantly knock any non-blocking human enemy down for a finisher. Oh, and high stance has Spearfall, which literally makes human boss fights a joke in the first couple of NG-cycles. Seriously, it's busted.
I personally prefer the spear to the odachi, poking at enemies from range in low stance, then going in with some high stance hits to finish them off, but I've played the game through with odachi as well and both were fun.
Honestly, stats don't matter all THAT much; more important is the weapon's level/quality; already by mid-NG whose 5-15 whatever extra damage points are rendered useless.
Here is the same fight with an odachi and then with a spear (better exacuted; one is "regular", the second is a no-hit; both on NG+, both on the same scumbag cheater boss):

Both done by me, kinda showcasing the strengths and utilities of both weapons :D
Your level?
The 2 were on different characters/runs, hence the level difference.
