I'm glad I'm not the only one.. this game made me do a whole diagnosis and driver reinstalls/updates and various other things on my PC... Turned out the port is somewhat glitchy/not well optimized

Too late for OP, but Sul give some info and we might be able to help.

When does it happen, where does it happen, gpu/cpu give us the whole 9 yards.

Not sure if it's the same thing, but I have a similar problem every once in a while.

Here's the order of events when it locks up on the black screen:
1. Choose "Play" from Steam.
2. Choose "Play Nioh: Complete Edition
3. Choose "Launch Game" from the Nioh launcher.
4. A smallish black window shows up for a moment before going full screen. None of the information shows up on the screen (like the Press Alt+F2 for Ansel (or whatever it says) in the top left or the amrita loading thing in the bottom right).
5. Program locks up and I have to do a hard reboot (Alt+Tab, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+Enter, none of those work).

I haven't noticed any sort of rhyme or reason to it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Once the game actually launches (which it does, more often than not) it works just fine.

Wow that sounds strange, given that it doesn't always happen.

Where is your steam saved? any potentional for permission errors? Do you have anti-virus that might be doing something when you boot the game, that could cause problems? Does your disk max out at 100% often, for instance when you're booting the game? Any other programs running in the background?

Shot in the dark too but try Windows+Tab, might get you out but I doubt it if ctrl+alt+delete didn't.

It's just in E:\ along with the rest of my games.

Nope. Only one profile/user on this computer and it's me.

If this was doing something, wouldn't it cause problems all the time? Either way, my anti-virus doesn't try to tell me anything about it when the game works.

Nope. It only gets to about 40%, but that's when the game is working properly.

Have tried it with only Steam running and then with a few Firefox windows open. Doesn't seem to make a difference, since it's worked and failed in both situations. =/

I didn't even know that was a thing. I never use the windows key and since it interrupts games I kind of trained myself to avoid it. Totally forgot about it. XD

Kind of hard to answer some of those questions since I can't see what my computer is doing when it goes all black screen. Haven't tried launching it in windowed mode. Hard to really test different things since it doesn't reliably do one or the other, making it hard to pin down what actually makes a difference. =/

You don't have to worry about it on my account, though. It works most of the time for me, so I can still manage to play when I want to.

It happens on start up or after alt-tabbing exclusively.

Sometimes the game will not start-up at all, it would crash on start up and require another start-up. Sometimes after start-up it will do the monitor idling and turning on loop glitch until it gets turned off and the monitor stops doing that. Sometimes it will do the monitor glitch after I alt-tab and sometimes instead of glitching it entirely crashes if I alt-tab (alt-tabbing is generally unsafe with this game). These are my issues.

I've stress-tested and made diagnosis tests on my GPU and CPU and RAM to make sure they're in the clear, its probably the game itself but I still lowkey suspect a Razer software thats installed in my computer might be the culprit

Damn, well one more question: Have ya'll tried running it in compatibility mode for Win7? I've read about problems that some users have had with windows 8 and 10/
Sul Jun 26, 2018 @ 11:13am
No I haven't I'll give that a try though.

Gonna put an update on my problem

Turned out its most likely not Nioh itself, its my CPU. I still haven't pinpointed the problem to be exact. I've done an OS reset and it didn't fix the problem (rekt). I lowered my overclock by 1mghz today and my PC seems to have stabilized.

Weird how I've had a stable 3.9 OC for a year straight problem-free but it became unstable over last month.. but I'm still not certain if my overclock is whats causing the issue, need more time.
