What does everyone think of the remake?

I just finished my playthrough and thought it was pretty good. Now I'm curious how everyone thinks this remake compares to the original Steam release. What did you guys think of Blood Mode? If you had to choose between only playing this remake and playing the original, which would you choose and why? I think I'd pick the remake just for some of the new bits of lore. Just a warning for anyone who hasn't played it yet - this discussion will likely contain spoilers!

The sprites look washed out and a little rough around the edges and the lighting sometimes feel out of place but it's okay, I guess.

The new graphics are really really bad, imo. They kind of ruin the atmosphere of the game and make it feel really amateurish.
if they're gonna totally replace the graphics like this, the remake should have been a separate download so players could keep the old one.

I like the idea of the remake but it's hard to focus when I'm constantly being distracted by how weird Aya looks.

Yeaaaah I don't hate the new graphics but I really prefer the old sprite work, should definitely give the option to play the original or at least restore the og sprites

While the graphics didn't bother me (though I admit I preferred the look of the original - I mainly liked the new lore in the remake), I totally agree that the original should have been kept available. I'm not sure why they didn't just make a separate Steam page for the remake (or at least kept the original as an option in game). I do like that they gave Maria in particular a bit of a redesign, though. She always looked odd to me.

They just remind me of The Witch's House MV. Idk, maybe that's why they don't bug me. But I totally understand if they're not your cup of tea. Hopefully they'll add the original back in as an option to play.

So far I love the new style of the game, and I also greatly enjoy how the game now has controller support and more in game options. However I don't think it's a good idea to make it so you can't access the old version of this game. So far I'm not done with my new playthrough, but I am eager to try out the new blood mode I've heard about.

Other than that since the game has been remade, I would have loved to see something like a few more achievements.

It's too bad that even with everything they changed in the remake...they still kept the horrible English voice for Dr. Drevis.
"Aya..I gonna get you" remains one of the worst voice-acted lines ever.


Also it's really a shame they didn't add any achievements for Blood Mode.

I really like that they kept the father's voice. At this point in time since the game IS named after him, his voice especially when chasing down Aya is absolutely iconic. Changing that would change more than just the look that's already being complained about ( which I don't see an issue with but that's just me ).

Every killer in a survival horror game or horror movie has to have something about them that sets them apart. It just so happened that with Mr. Drevis a.k.a. Mad Father that it was his laugh and taunts towards his daughter as he hunted her.

He had a voice in the pre-steam release version that was way creepier, though. The dorky English voice was only added in the steam release years later.

I enjoyed the remake of the entire map and the graphics I did enjoy but I can't love the sprite. I just can't stand that damn sprite of Aya. The thing I think I hate the most is the damn sounds in game. I can't stand that god awful screaming of the ghosts, it hurts the ears its loud as all hell and for no reason, sure your dying but please shut up, screaming ain't helping sure a normal scream. but a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ear piercing one is just brutal, I forgot about the mother and her scream. Walked into the bedroom and had to take a minute to recover. This game has been remade twice now. The non steam version was alright, the old version great this version tho, I don't understand why the remake it isn't that old now.

I enjoyed the bit of walking past the dolls and the sewer area and the outside a 100x more than the other version tho. I personally enjoy that dorky english voice acting its quite funny to me. So im glad they kept it but those damn screams could of been changed. This game should of had the old version in the betas tab but it doesn't oddly. Its like that work is trashed entirely now, So I do hope we get it back for I enjoyed Aya's sprite way more than this current one.

One thing I also wished changed was that stupid face Aya makes when she reaches out to yell, she has that dumb looking face, her eyes just bug me in that one sprite of hers. The before steam version had the perfection expression for it. but the steam version is just awful with it. Could of redone that bit. I hate that dumb face is all I can say. All her other sprites when talking are perfect and great but just that one.

I have mixed feelings about Blood Mode. On one hand, sure, we end up repeating most of the game, but I'm impressed that it's done in a way that adds to the lore and doesn't make things too repetitive. I'm glad it's not just a harder version of the main game (which I was concerned it'd end up being). But on the other hand, I found the whole "play as a new main character!" announcement to be very misleading (I'm not the only one who read that as we'd be getting a completely new character and not just aged up Aya, right?) and I'm disappointed there weren't any new achievements. And I got all 20 gems and all I got in return was another image to use as the title screen background. No extra scenes as far as I could tell (unless I somehow missed them, which is entirely possible with me). So that was pretty disappointing. One of my favorite scenes was that one with Jean. That scene plus the true ending of normal mode gives me the impression that Aya started to go down the same path as her father, but then got stopped by the blonde kid or something by the time Blood Mode takes place. I don't understand how she could be acting the way she does in Blood Mode otherwise (but then again, this is the same kid who was keeping dead cats in her drawer).
