Unable to find ladder

Watched some videos but those are all played with the previous version of the game, and it doesn't match with the newest.. Anyone who can help me out?

If you don't care about spoilers:
You get the ladder in the shortcut to the kitchen once you meet the wooden barricade preventing you from moving forward.

The item is super hard to miss so likely you haven't reached that point yet or just need to do some deeper digging. Hope this helped!
