I'm an indie developer. Cozy Burg is my first game, and it exists because of every game I've ever loved.

I remember playing the original SimCity for hours on my father's Atari ST — leaning into that little screen, watching tiny cars stream through streets I had laid out myself. Something clicked that afternoon that never unclicked: a world on a screen could work. Streets could have reasons. Traffic could be a story about everyone in town at once. It's probably why I make software at all.

Decades later — a career, a family, less patience for alarms — Dorfromantik taught me nearly the opposite lesson: that a game could ask almost nothing of me and still hold me completely. One lovely tile after another. A landscape unfolding like a slow breath. Nothing beeping, no failure screaming at you. Just... nature, arranged gently, by hand.

Two kinds of game. Two completely different joys. And a question I couldn't put down: why do I have to choose?


Cozy Burg is my answer — a cozy hex town builder that takes one thing from each shelf of my life and tries to make them belong together.

From the cozy tile-layers, it takes the hands: you play from a small hand of tiles — a terrain, a zone, a road — and you simply place them. Grass. A forest. A lake, a mountain, a farm. Anyone can play it the minute they touch it, and nothing about it is ever in a hurry.

From the city builders, it takes the heartbeat: underneath the calm is a genuine simulation. Every car on your streets is somebody going somewhere — following the car ahead, queueing at a junction, taking a better route when one appears. You draw bus lines by hand, stop to stop. Ferries carry your cars across water your roads can't cross. When the town jams, it's really jammed, and when you fix it, you can watch the queue come apart.


A blend like that falls apart without one hard rule, and Cozy Burg's is this: coziness is not decoration. It's progression.

Nature and beauty are a core requirement, not a reward. Homes fill faster on streets worth living on. Quests ask you to make a corner of the world genuinely lovelier — more parks, more trees, more reasons to linger. You cannot brute-force this town with asphalt and zoning; the charming route and the correct route are usually the same one. Make it beautiful. Then make it work. In that order, on purpose.

That's also where the puzzle lives. Every town asks one thing of you: keep people coming, before the tiles in your hand run out. People only settle where the town works — where the streets are cozy, the jobs are close, and the traffic moves. Hold all three at once and the town gives back: landmarks rise, whole systems come alive. It's a puzzle you solve with beauty.


The moment I'm chasing is simple. You paint a hillside because it looks right. You lay a road because it follows the shore. And then — quietly, without asking — the painting starts to live. Cars find your road. Someone walks the path you imagined. The little world you made because it was beautiful turns out to work.

Like a Bob Ross painting, except the happy little trees get a morning commute.

No two towns come out the same. Yours will be beautiful in your way, functional in your way, and completely, recognizably yours. That's the whole game. That's why I'm building it.
