How do the maps in this game compare to the original? Are they essentially identical?
I played the original in the Summer of 2000. While I can't recall all the map, I still can imagine bits of it. The game was that good.

My question is this: If I buy this version, have the maps changed? Or is the new version essentially a port over with the same maps, but improved graphics, UI and so forth?

The overall layouts are similar, but new stuff was added to flesh out Citadel Station in order to make it feel like a place people would actually live in.

The maps are extremely similar with some changes. Its very faithful to the original's map layout.

The maps are mostly 1:1 but with added detail, some different art in places, and some areas/rooms are changed/expanded

Cyberspace is fully different layout wise though

Thank you all. I realized once I tried the demo that this is System Shock 1, not SS2, so it didn't matter. I played SS2 all the way through, but not SS1.

You should just play Prey (2017) then. It's basically System Shock 3.

Prey is pretty great.
