Learn to use the Sparq. You have infinite ammo for it as long as you have access to a recharge station. The best firemode is 'high' (not 'overload') if you aim for weakspots like heads. There is also a few supply closets around that have TONS of batteries, which makes energy weapons convenient to use on the go.
You can always go back to Medical deck for infinite full heal where you started. Another tip is to go to the Reactor deck and unlock the medical bay there. It is more convenient to use due to the elevator access.
Melee is strong if you combine it with shield and consumables. Be smart with how you engage: for example, get their attention then ambush them from behind a door. Try to find the laser rapier if you can.
Focus on destroying the secutiry level on each deck. As Shodan looses control of a deck she will be unable to send more minions there. The exception is Research deck which has a robot repair facility that must be disabled to stop them from coming back.
I don't have that problem. Have you disabled robot repair in research and broken all the cameras?
Use SparqBeam and also there should be a laser rapier in maint, or at least that was the case in the 94 original.
Engineering complains about shutting off robot manufacturing, go find it.
Now, if you are out of both ammo and healing items, then it is going to be really rough for a while, but you can sort of work around that (though again, it is going to be painful). The key is, that every time you get low on anything, rush straight to the nearest healing station and energy recharge station (worst-case scenario - those on the 1st level). Both are free and infinite. Secondly, on every new level prioritize finding medical bay / cyborg production (you can recognize them by the doors). This will limit / stop NEW enemies production + make you a free respawn point, which should make things go smoother afterwards. When you get back on your feet, don't get over-confident, patience and resource management is a key. Also, it is really worth dying in this game sometimes. If you see some tough enemy and you are low on health, it may be worth it to charge with melee weapon (assuming you found the best one already), and after being restored, you will have ~30-40% health; if there's medical station next to it - even better.
Another thing is, keep looking for weapon upgrades. It can be really annoying, especially if you have an upgrade to the weapon that is in the locker (and you don't have space in your inventory), but remember that more effective weapon = less resource-hungry weapon.
If you are less patient - find a walktrough, look up the restoration unit on the map of the level you are on (and maybe security devices, not sure if they don't affect enemy respawn as well), and rush to it first. This really makes a huge difference, as you practically become invincible on this very level.
If that's still no good, the only advice is to start again, this time with much more conservative resource usage (+ more exploration, especially after enemies are disabled on the given level) and/or with lower difficulty level.
Reactor has free healing chamber and energy restore you can kill almost anything for free.
Do not enter core as it is a late area with high tier enemies and 100+ radiation.
Try to save teflon ammo for the late mid game smg which replaces the pistol.
And sparkbeam a lot early on run back to restore energy.Use high energy for general combat, low energy to kill cameras overkill when you are near a recharge station and want to kill fast.
And as above lower security % everywhere and disable robot production on reseach lvl.
There are some lvls which desgined to drain your resources to save for them eg.beta grove and boss fight most of them also bypass your ress chamber and kill you.
So also try to save batteries and such do not waste them randomly.
I've no idea how you run out of resources having only completed two decks though, one of your first weapons has effectively unlimited ammo (ie. the Sparq). I also recommend not standing in the open and letting enemies shoot you repeatedly in the face, that's bad for resource conservation too.
Do Mutants still infinitely respawn on Medical with medi patches? Because it doesn't seem like it. I really do not want to attempt Engineering with 1 medkit and 2 medis. It will not end well. Frankly, the resource scarcity seems insane compared to my experience with Enhanced Edition, but it doesn't look like they changed the damage weapons do to the enemies.
Like you said, you can keep respawning forever so there is no penalty for playing badly at all.
Saves a ton of ammo. Also use the right gun for the right job. Certain enemies have resistances.
Tbh I find this really odd, my thoughts are the exact opposite. I'm playing on Hard and have way too much sh*t. I've never got any space and keep leaving ammo behind.
