the chess puzzle is garbage and allows the AI to win

seriously why am i locked form making a move im not checkmated like wtf is wrong with this game here???? i am litrally locked out of making moves where i should be able to. what the ♥♥♥♥ is this ♥♥♥♥??

Kinda hard to tell without actually seeing the move you're trying to make, but there's a fair chance you're trying to make an illegal move; either 1) a move that's simply illegal for that piece, 2) a move that would expose your king, or 3) your king is threatened ("check") so you have to move your king or somehow block/counter that threat.

Take a break, relax and try again, then have a long, hard look at your knight.

If you're really REALLY stuck and can't think straight anymore (I know that feeling!), this is 2023 and we have the internet. Be warned though, if you do go down that road, you'll probably feel really dumb when you see the solution.

The puzzle is really a bit ridiculous. Especially as there's one of the most, if not THE most useful upgrades behind it. Needed to consult an online chess analyzer to solve it, lol...

Dear game designers, the least people who play this game are interested in chess. 😉

That said, it's one of the best games I played in the last 15 years. Kudos to Nightdive.

see i know atleast the basics for chess so i know what pieces can make what moces like knights move in a L. Rook is a line. yada yada. what i dont like in this garbage puzzle is that its making my pawns or other chess pieces softlocked from moving when im not checkmated. this puzzle is literally garbage

its a fantastic game yea. but whoever put this here is kinda a d***head. like its not even allowing me to really make my own moves that are legal it will lock pieces in place when i should be free to move. its ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Yeah, I was completely puzzled that I couldn't move the rook as well. I thought I missed something, or didn't understand the puzzle.

Anyway, I won't bash them for it. But, I definitely need to consult walkthroughs, or chess analyzers every now and then...

If you were checkmated you would have lost and the puzzle would have reset.

You were most likely in check. At which point the ONLY legal move is moving your king OUT of check.

The pawn is perhaps the most complicated chess piece of them all; the INITIAL move can either be 1 or 2 straight forward, after that they can only move 1 forward. However, they can only attack 1 diagonally. On top of which, if they manage to reach the opposite side, they get promoted to queens no less.

I played with it a little while after beating the puzzle, and from what I could tell the game followed all the normal rules, although I didn't try anything fancy like castling.

Yeah, same here. Literally in a scenario where I can't move my knight. The chess puzzle is probably the worst one in the game.

And telling me to fetch a chess calculator....come on, that only shows how obsolete the idea to implent chess was.

...are you referencing the piano "puzzle" in Resident Evil Village? The thing that barely qualifies as a puzzle and you don't even need to understand music or how to play a piano to solve?

The difference here is that this puzzle is completely optional.. Sure you get a decent storage space upgrade as a reward. But nothing is forcing you to actually do this if you don't want to..

weirdly it would freeze my king and i couldnt for the life of me find the one space it wanted me to move to. so i ended up just using chessbot and countered its moves
