too many softlocks
love the game but it should not be possible to softlock in 2023...i cannot progress because:

1. not enough healing items to get through beta grove
2. dropped plastique (as there was no indication they had a purpose) and cannot find them anywhere

not interested in replaying 5-6 hours of gameplay sorry

Wait until you make the reactor self-destruct and then load a previous save. There's a bug preventing you from pulling the lever ever again and that's what, two hours away from the end of the game?

using steam achievment manager and removing that achievment will fix that.

Yeah and even starting a new game doesnt fix this, you've got to somehow reset the achievement, how did this make it to the final release????

There needs to be a way to deliver an electric shock across the internet every time someone whines about softlock, softlock softlock, softlock, softlock. It's like they think that word makes their whining sound more authoritative.

Softlock has a specific meaning, that a game program is still running but has entered a state where it's literally impossible to progress. Like if a button you need to press has somehow teleported out of the level. Or an NPC you absolutely need to talk to has died. That's a softlock.

Being stuck somewhere with insufficient health, or a puzzle you can't figure out how to solve, isn't a softlock. It's just being stuck.

This game is a constant reminder of why no one should ever make games that have these kinds of mechanics ever again.

It's 100% needlessly frustrating and idiotic.

Thanks for the tip, I'll be sure to make a save immediately after doing that.

no need to be condescending. i can think of more reasonable suggestions. you could make it so that the room to access the plastique is locked by a code you can't discover until later. after all there is 'electronic equipment' on every floor of the space station. maybe it blows up an electronic lock on a door, or destroys a CPU, who knows?

i'm playing on default difficulty.

I learned the rule of thumb is to drop things you might need later by an elevator. Had a very similar issue actually. I had dropped mine in a healing area and by the time I needed them I had long forgotten where I dropped them. I searched for so long but I managed to find them.

One aspect that makes it so immersive is that it doesnt protect you from yourself. However, the items will remain there (unless they fall through the floor and then they go the garbage chute) until you find them.

Take screenshots of the map and mark off where youve searched or use a notepad to log which floors youve searched. You can overcome if you persevere :Companions:
good tips. honestly, i think i am just going to restart a new game, on a higher combat difficulty to change things up a bit. then i'll make sure to conserve my items and store them somewhere i can remember.

#1 can be done if you get the jetpack boots to skip most of the level. Just save in the beginning and do a run through until you memorize the map
#2 isn't a soft lock, that's your own fault for dropping a unique item instead of thinking it might be necessary later
thats literally the definition of a soft lock, honey.

In a SURVIVAL HORROR game where inventory management is part of the critical gameplay insisting on squirreling away literally every miscellaneous object and piece of junk in the game (because you might need it for something! what is this monkey island??) is garbage game design and you know it.

One simple tip is whenever you drop items that might be important, then just place a map marker as a reminder. And it will be much easier to find it again.

Resident Evil games are basically this in a nut shell. if you try a boss with little to no health and haven't conserved any health items. You're usually screwed..
