Freight elevator as storage
I had been using the freight elevator in the middle of the maintenance floor to store my crud, since I could store any amount an access it from three different floors.

Turns out this was an awful idea. At one point open the elevator to find it empty, the items were showing on my radar but they weren't there. Later not even the radar could detect them. Rip grenade launcher.

So don't do that.

Yeah, the elevators aren't safe storage in this.

Check the Recycle area in Reactor level, there seems to be a "lost and found" bin in there for items that somehow make their way off the game world.

If you really want to do that, just use the freight elevator to go back to maintenance floor itself, you'll be in the room in the middle of the map. There are four storage boxes that you can use. Two standard and two large.
Or use any easy-to-find storage boxes to store excess items and just mark them on your map with a custom marker.

Definitly don't put something in there you *really* wanna keep but I just had a few surplus patches and the wrench in there and while I completed the 3 levels they were safe in there.

In reference to using the lift as storage in SS2, the remake has dumbwaiters here and there specifically for that, but I haven't played the full game yet (except for setting up graphics & controls) so I don't know where they all are.

I also found when I played system shock 2, I'd get the same problem you did in this game if I actually stored things in the elevator unlike most players, but dumping them outside the doors was fine.

Never occured to me that I could store stuff in existing containers like its Fallout or something.

The thing that annoys me is that it worked perfectly fine for long enough that it didn't feel unreasonable to assume this was an intentional design feature.

has anyone tried storing items inside a container somewhere.. then checking back after time to see if it's still there? i will give it a shot next time i'm in game.

Containers are safe. I used the ones in maintenance outside the big elevator as a storage hub for most of the game.

Items on the ground are safe too. Just not in elevators. Or doorways.

I just dump stuff on the floor. Seems to stay just fine.
