Anno 2070

Anno 2070

DEVS FROM UBI MAINZ WILL TRY TO UPDATE THE GAME. Official announcement.
https://anno-union.com/union-update-update-anno-2070-online-services/

We have decided to dedicate some of our development resources to work on upgrading Anno 2070’s aged online services infrastructure to a new system, so that these features can continue to be used past the mentioned date.
However, we cannot yet guarantee that we’ll be able to successfully upgrade/replace the old services as we’d like to.

Just read this first before anything else.

Not something you do in a week.

Also, no, there are no plans for a remaster (or History Edition, if we wanted to stick to our terminology) for Anno 2070 despite your cynicism.

Review-bombing probably won't help with an older game like this, and a niche genre ... but it's the first time I've agreed with the tactic on Steam, since they are still offering the game and DLCs as part of the Steam Summer Sale, they are really making a last ditch money-grab here and that's just really wrong. Those people who have no idea and buy the entire game plus expansions during the sale are getting taken for a scam ride.

Hopefully they really do upgrade the online infrastructure and save this game. It's worth it. U-Play is just complete crap but I made an exception for this game, I love it so much.

THANKYOU SO MUCH, ANNO 2070 is by far my favourite Anno, i really love the scifi feel that was done witht his and i do hope when they are done with 1800 they take everything they learned to make a new scifi anno

On August 31st, "We made a statement on June 7th that we would try to upgrade Anno 2070's online system to keep it going. However, as of today we have to regretfully state that we were incapable of keeping this system alive. We apologize." - Blue Byte

<2 months later>
"We are happy to announce that we have released Anno 2070: Remastered for $69.99!" - Ubisoft

Wow, that's quite some thing taking down the game since the last mission would be impossible because you need the permanent connection to the server to access your Ark.

Thanks for your dedication to this 11 year old game. Hopefully the same can be done for the older Assassin's Creed games and other Ubisoft games which are due to lose certain features once the servers close.

I thank the devs for doing this, but Ubisoft's policies are directly to blame for this problem and is now a prime example of why these anti-piracy schemes (because that was what this was, a way to lock content behind online accounts) do nothing but punish paying customers. Pirates do not have to worry about their copy of Anno 2070 breaking. Their copy will never go offline, because it was never online to begin with. My copy, though, the one I paid for? I have to be worried about that - and my copy of Anno 1800 as well. Can the devs guarantee when Anno 1800 is sunsetted there will be an effort to unf**k the always online portion of the game? No, and frankly I don't expect the devs to - even if they are this time. After all, who knows what things will be like in ten years. The product I paid for is on a timer, and I have no one to blame but Ubisoft.

And so, to the community manager here, I really hope you'll relay to Ubisoft higher ups the customer base's unhappiness with their idiocy. This stupidity flat out doesn't work to dissuade pirates, it dissuades people from buying Ubisoft titles. It's not even DRM, it's just a pointless service that Ubisoft has to provide for no benefit to itself or to us. I have never heard of losing access to single player DLC from any other game title or company. It is just complete stupidity.

This is great news, any chance any of the other affected games could recieve offline patches or new servers from their developers like Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist and the Assassin's Creed games?

This is not something I can comment on, I'm only working on the Anno brand, sorry.
Rainbowhawk1993 Jul 11, 2022 @ 12:27pm
So does this mean we can still play offline with all the add-ons after September 1, regardless if you’re able to update the servers?
