No character voices heard
Just finished playing AC II in which all the sound effects played except character dialogue. I had to rely on subtitles. Did a vgc but to good effect. Just downloaded AC B and guess what --- exactly the same problem!

Is this a known problem with a solution? Could someone kindly suggest things I could do to get character voices heard, please.

Sounds like a problem with your sound card or something. I haven't had said problem, but I have heard of others with a similar problem. I have no idea how to fix it, but maybe try uninstall/reinstall.
Change your Sound Devices Audio Channel to Stereo (you might have it set to Digital Surround or something). You might have to google search how to do it since I don't know what device or windows version you have. Shouldn't be that hard.

If you're using Realtek speakers just make sure you download and install the latest drivers from their website.

Temu, concerning stereo, you were spot on! Thank you very much, indeed! :)
Glad to help man. The voice acting in this game is superb so it would suck to miss out.

Thanks a lot !
This is what I did - Control Panel - Hardware and Sound - Sound - Playback tab - Select Speakers - Configure - Select Stereo and continue and you are done !
I had configured it for 5.1 channel a some time back, don't know why
