Keyboard not working in game on Mac: solution
I've been opening ACB like this: Go to Library (hold option while clicking "Go" for the icon to appear) then to Steam. Open up "SteamApps" and then "common". Open the game folder, right click on the game, and then click "Show Package Contents". Open "Contents" and then MacOS. Open up "acbmp_sf" which should launch Terminal and then the multiplayer ACB.

When you get to multiplayer, type in anything in the username box. Then go to the password box. DO NOT HIT ENTER TO DO THIS. You MUST click on the box. Type in whatever the heck you want, then CLICK (DO NOT HIT ENTER) the "remember my username and password" button. Then, hit enter when it tells you you can't log in, then backspace. DO NOT CLICK to exit. You must hit backspace! (or whatever button it says to quit, I'm writing this from memory). Then hit enter when it asks you if you want to go to singleplayer. Follow this exactly and it should work, singleplayer will open and you can play. Comment if I said something incorrect.

I know this is old, but if you can please do help me. I roughly did your steps, but some stuff didn't make sense.
What I did was to go on multiplayer like you said, then click user, type random stuff. Then click password and type random stuff. Then click 'Remember my... password'. Then I hit enter to login, then when it fails to connect ] I hit enter to go to singleplayer.

This USED to work, but one day I closed it, came back and when I opened it again, the keyboard didn't work with the same technique.
Please help

I found this blog post helpful:
http://blobblubblobblog.blogspot.ca/2013/06/assassins-creed-ii-brotherhood-on-mac.html

Key points:
The game does not accept input from the desired keyboard or other input device.
"The reason for this is that the game can only handle one keyboard. When it starts, it will pick a keyboard at random."
"The workaround is simple in theory: make sure that only the keyboard you want to use is plugged in while starting the game (from the UPlay interface)."
Obviously, this is difficult to do with the built-in keyboard on a laptop. Fear not: The post linked above has instructions to help with that.

This applies to game controllers and some gaming mice, which present themselves to the system as a keyboard, and provide keyboard input. I was having trouble getting my Steam Controller to work until I disconnected all other keyboards before launching from the Ubisoft Launcher. In my case, this also includes turning off any remote programs or other input programs that emulate a keyboard - I use Remote Buddy, which allows custom keyboard input and keypresses via various remotes. Quitting all these increases the chance that your preferred keyboard or other device will be chosen by the game for the great honour of providing keyboard input.

I haven't tried this with AC:B yet, but it has worked for me with AC:2. I hope it helps others.

Ahh, this explains a lot. Therefore, there is a simple solution of just disconnecting all the keyboards, apart from the primary one.

Yes, I have no idea how many changes may have taken place since 2013 (it may have to do with Steam itself) but I do recall trying to launch the game earlier this year to remind myself of what I loved most about the series after the crash and burn of AC Unity.

The keyboard thing makes loads of sense actually. At the time I was using one connected to my computer via USB, but I have a sneaking suspicion the bluetooth one I set aside may have been trying to connect. Who knows.

Anyways, I did manage to get the game to launch in early 2015. There's different variations on the whole "CLICK THIS AND NOT THAT THEN PRESS THIS AND NOT THAT" but the one I first suggested is like the basic way to solve it. Experiment around with it, I've found that doing the process once or twice or thrice has seemed to fix it.

I'll mess around with it and get back to you!

DW about it! I have it all sorted out, and my USB keyboard broke anyway. It works fine with my razer tatarus.
Thanks anyway, I finished the game again now!

Yeah sorry guys this post is pretty old, no clue how compatible the fix is with Sierra. I ended up deleting AC:B because it was taking up too much space on my harddrive. If someone could respond and verify that the fixes are still working that would be much appreciated and I'm sure it'd help other people out.

Its cool how such an old post like this can still help people over a year later. Have fun!

Oh yeah, for sure. Frankly, I'm still surprised that eighth grade me managed to figure all this stuff out, but it makes me happy that it's still applicable and continuing to help people out.

It just comes to show that when great games become abandoned by their devs, it's up to the community to figure out how to keep them running before they become unplayable altogether.
