Controller not working? READ ME
I was reading how common it seems that a lot of people could not get their controllers to work (Most common responce to questions was the "go to options and choose the controller" as if everyone was an idiot who's never played before)

Long story short, you need to go to Microsoft and download their xbox driver, the windows generic wont work with this particular game.

I had a Rock Candy and an XBox 360 controller and neither worked, they were selectable but the commands would not work, I went to the site, installed, and now it works fine

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows

addendum: I am runing on Windows 8.1 (for the love of all that's holy, unholy and the sake of soul and sanity do NOT upgrade to this yet) for the above I chose the Windows 7 64 bit version which works fine (seems XBox doesn't want to admit to the existance of Windows H8 yet either (typo intentional))

I downloaded the xbox driver and everything, but my controller still doesnt work for single player in ACB. It only works with multiplayer, and when I go to change the control settings, the xbox control option is there but its not highlighted. Am I missing something?

1 did you reboot (you probably did since the installation requires it once it's done but Im required by internet law under the Ask a Silly Question Act to ask)

2 start the utility it's an almost worthless app but I think it helps load the correct driver, also if you had any other controller utilities like logitech try getting rid of them

3 is your controller the xbox 360 wired FROM microsoft or is it a 3rd party? most should work but there may be a few that the game rejects if so add it here and maybe we can find a workaround

Normally I would also suggest the xpadder program too but the freeware version is no longer available (gamegeeks took down the last freeware) don't misunderstand I fully support paying for it it's a great program but 99% of gamers want a free fix not a pay for)

Prior to loading the xbox driver I was also having the controllers list and able to be selected however the controls were grayed out so they couldn't be changed, after the new driver they were no longer gray.

Also, what version of Windows are you running? and which driver did you chose?

Ahhh I see. and I bought my control from gamestop actually and yes it is wired. Im followed a tutorial on youtube because I have windows 8, I was told to download the windows 7 64 bit, this is the link http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/xbox-360-controller-for-windows. Where can I find the utilities exactly?

it will be in your apps, if not on the main apps page go to all apps (right click on the apps page then down at the bottom to all apps, 8.1 has a small arrow in the lower left that scrolls to all apps)

Where do I get the drivers from?
TimeViewer Aug 24, 2021 @ 3:15pm
Well this is a bit of a necro...

When you connect on Win 8.1 or 10 it will auto download the drivers, if it's a different brand other than Microsoft you may need that company's software (ie: Razer, Synapse etc)

The link I had posted those years back now is a deadend and the drivers they use to offer no longer there.

Be aware that some controllers may just flat out suck, (cough Rockcandy cough cough) you get what you pay for so don't go cheap (Microsoft, PowerA, Razer are brands I've used and not had issues with)

Some games also need settings adjusted for controllers while others will just use them (love games that allow you to use both at the same time)

If you still have problems let me know what OS you're on and the Controller brand.

Oh and also be aware that many controllers may have connection issues if wired especially if that wire is too short or barely long enough. The connection into the controller is the weakest point and inside the attachment points can come loose. Make sure there's enough play in the wires that they don't get pulled (the wires themselves can also become stretched and fray) (this applies to headphones too)

Well, for me just going to the Assassin's Creed Brotherhood game properties on steam and in the controller section disabling steam controller support seems to make it work, idk why that is.
TimeViewer Aug 24, 2021 @ 6:05pm
Maybe it was looking for Steam's own controller overriding yours?

I guess it's the steam's compatibility layer for Xinput controllers.

I think it's for their own they sell, the Steam Controller?

It's a general controller compatibility layer I think, for many 3rd party controller it basically emulates Xinput. But for some games which already accepts your controller natively, that compatibility layer messes things up. God Eater 2 for example has bit of problem with steam's controller compatibility layer in such that rebinding keys on Controller actually doesn't work, and you press two buttons at once XD. Only disabling the Steam's Controller Support solves that. Anyways extremely sorry for the necro, I was a bit desperate to play the game as fast as I can.

So you work for Ubisoft, you're aware of all the hoops people jump through just to get this game working, yet you have no intention to fix the many problems with your pathetic PC port? I've spent the last few hours trying to get this game to work, only to get locked out of your pathetic ubisoft connect launcher because i typed my password wrong. the second AC game wont even launch because you bundled in an outdated launcher. you're pathetic, beyond pathetic, ubisoft is worthless. ill never buy another one of your half baked pathetic games again, you absolute worm.....

Hello Peronias.

Apologies for the late response and sorry to hear it you have been experiencing issues with accessing your Ubisoft account and that Ubisoft Connect does not meet your expectations.

Is you have any specific issues, other than the controller issue from this thread, please feel free to create a new thread and give us as much constructive context as possible.

We will try to assist you.

Keep in mind, this is an old title and we do not expect updates changing the game's features and functionality any more.

I will lock this thread now.
