Not using human skills also ends up limiting your inventory space, making resource management ( if not scarcity ) more important, especially since you can't repair any of your gear or even upgrade them past a very basic level.
Either way, it's true that the game can be too easy, especially if you're not actively make playstyle choices that would hamper your own power.
I appreciate games like this. Not for the difficulty, but for the imagination you can't get in a 2hr movie anymore.
i see, so i accidentally chose the OP option, by choosing human route... which is unintuitive since its about alien creatures, my intuition was that choosing to have their powers will make me much more powerful. Its kinda lame if youre being attacked by spicies inferior to your own :D
I guess i'll just finish the story and be done with it. Imo its not worth replaying, too much running around for quests. I just feel this could be such a better game if there was some more deadspace/halflife sauce in it. Which is hard to get right.
So you have less resources and use up more. You can also lvl 3 mimic operators and kill enemies with them to prevent any player hp loss.
That said human combined with typhon is the most op.
Eg.combat focus, typhon skill which deals dmg and prevents enemy psi use, typhon dmg spell(s),blacklash so you are immune to 3 hits, and regen passive so if you take dmg in fourth hit(even tough you are in bullet time) you back up to 25 health.
Use spells get close and shotgun leftover hp or beamcannon nightmare is dead very fast and you are immune to 3 hits and he can not use range spell option due to debuff spell.
Worst case he fired his 3 homing orbs pre debuff in slow motion you got hit by all 3 and took zero damage.
And human has tons of psi pool and heal to use typhon skills almost full non stop.
Nightmare difficulty over "normal" is only 160% dmg taken 80% gained(like hard) from most"healing" items.eg medkits, psi hypos and you deal 80% damage,so enemy is very slightly tougher usually 1 more hit.
The loot amounts crafting cost everything is the SAME on easy to nightmare in prey.
As you take more damage and heal less you use up slightly more stuff. And likely slightly more ammo.Early on it is a very big difference.
System shock 2(also immersive sim) difficulty had same effective hp mobs for all difficulties but highest difficulty had players with much less hp,much less psi poll slightly less static items and random drops had 75% chance of not dropping anything so random loot was 4 times as rare as on normal difficulty.
Repicator(fabricator in prey)was twice as expensive.
And skills cost more so you could unlock less and+hp for sure and maybe+psi gave less numbers than on normal.
This resulted in very intense resource rationing even tough the enemy was same stats on easy as on impossible.
Prey it just some % modifiers applied.
Seems i have a mix build... however i tried using one of the alien powers to squeeze trough door and it always shows a cutscene when you enable the first one, which it didnt when i got combat focus... confusing tbh
Never heared of system shock, will take a look.
If you know more games in this style (alien/horror survival) please drop the names.
I'm playing metro exodus next (i finished the first two but they were okish, exodus seems to be the witcher 3 in the series).
Combat focus is human ability, typhon ones are all unlocked by researching aliens.
That said combat focus slows down time including in game timer so debuff or buff effects from typon stuff in practise last longer usually until everything enemy is dead with combat focus on.
System shock 2 is from 1999 Prey took many things from it.Many say Prey is neuroshock.
But SS 2 is much more hardcore due to different modifiers it also has tons of psi skills etc.eg buffs like increased agility, remote hacking, psi healing.
Researching ograns for bonus damage, weapons jam very fast must be maintained which cost exp to learn etc.
Eventually it is going to have an enhanced/remastered edition made by NightDive.
It is more RPG and less FPS and resource need to be rationed very hard.
Just like Prey there are many ways to play eg.hacking enemy turret, charming enemies.
Obviously GFX is dated.
Bioshock series obviously inspired by system shock series as well.
Most FPS heavy with less RPG it has some custom option eg.plasmids, passive stats from tonics, and you can research too via camera very similar to prey research and has limited build orders.
Higher difficulties is simply % modifier like prey and it has slightly less loot.
It is about hard as Prey. All shocks games start with the melee wrentch as default weapon and has 0451 as a code in their games.
Deus ex series another immersive sims game like prey many ways to complete objectives.
Vampire the masqurade bloodlines another(cult classic) immersive sim with vampire player from 7 different class must use unofificial pathches as by default is is ultra buggy.
As above ones many ways to complete quests,eg.seduce, charm use mind control with certain clans.(depending on player build),combat kill them etc.
Very high replay value.Game has no difficulty, difficulty is okay depends on player build.Dialog heavy game.
With tons of RPG elements like System shock 2.
So combat is heavily impacted by exp investments in stats usually you can choose 1.
eg firearms, melee unarmed which also affect in combat feeding chance and claw dmg fro certain clans.
Game is from 2004 using Alpha source engine looks okay with unofficial basic patch.
Maybe making a bad build will be more of a challenge...hehehe
Seriously, I am use to making average builds in games anyway. When I play a RPG I am never strong in anything. Always go with that jack of all trades. Usually makes for harder fights and more strategy.
Not sure how that will work with this game, but you never know.
I just started a new game and when choosing the first mod, instead of hacking or repair I chose the stronger body and it is a different and harder game.
