Prey

Never can beat the game.
I have over 30 hours in Prey and I just get burned out on every playthrough. I think around maybe the mid point of the game or so there are just way too many places to go and too many side quests. Even following the main quest its not always exactly clear on where to go and you may have to complete 1-10 different side quests in order to progress the main mission.

This game feels just way too long and completely overstays its welcome. I hate crafting games but I actually enjoyed the simple crafting mechanic in this game. I like the level design and character development, the weapons, the powers, the shooting and the enemies. I by all rights should love this game but I just burn out hard every time.

Usually around when you find the good guy survivors or so Idk how far that is into the game. This game might have just been too perfect and too expansive for its own good idk just cant do it. Literally hurts my brain when it just keeps unlocking more and more pathways and really unnecessary padding or filler idk.

Perhaps immersive sims just might not be the genre for you? This kinda game requires a LOT of exploring and looking at every room carefully to find very hidden things that might help you, its really for people who love exploring small game spaces and rewards them for doing so, theres so many hidden crevices and rooms that have alot of nice stuff purely for being creative when exploring, if you feel you need to rush it like an fps you arent playing it correctly

Single player fps games are my fave genre. Half-life, Dark Messiah, Bioshock, Wolfenstein Stalker, metro etc. I love immersive sims and im very well versed in the genre.

Most AAA FPS games are about 12-20 hours some push 15-30 hours depending on side quests etc. This game prey is pushing 30-40 hours for the main objective alone and possibly 60+ for side objectives. Thats a long ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game and goes against the average length of Immersive sims for the most part and single player fps games. It is most definitely my thing and my style of game but Prey overstays its welcome. I would much prefer a solid 20 hour game with lots of re-playability ( which Prey does have ) then something that turns into a 40 hours + slog.

I read an article written online by some website explaining why Prey kind of went under the radar of most people and why it never received a lot of praise and was simply forgotten. Explains how the game is almost too perfect in every aspect to a fault. There is no jankyness or glitches or memorable quirks or charms. It almost makes the game rather lifeless. There was simply not much for fellow Prey players to discuss about the game itself.

By rights I should like this game lots but maybe its the branching quests that work more like an RPG or MMO type style of play. 1 main objective leads to 5 other branches, each one of those branch missions leads to 1-5 other branches of missions. Its just overwhelming and unnecessary and gives me a headache. Also its hard to wrap your head around the level design ( even tho each section is solid) the ship itself is confusing since not a single adjacent area is accessible other than going outside the ship or finding some other way.

I did well exploring and know of the verticality of this game just like dishonored, know how to exploit the glue gun etc. Have plenty of resources and a good build but after 20 hours or so when you think it should be done its nowhere even close to the end. Which for this type of game doesnt work very well.

I started getting a bit lost too and it was frustrating but usually found the way. Theres just like 10x too many characters and audio logs and computer terminals and so much crap. The game would of been a better experience if they edited out about 25-50% of its content.

I wish it was longer and had more quests and more areas to explore. I loved running around on that space station.

You like STALKER and you can't figure out where to go in this game? Is this the real life? I know in two of the games you basically "just go up" but there are UI elements that point exactly where you need to go in this game, dogg

yeah I have over 1000 hours in stalker games and know them all like the back of my hand lol every quest and location. It just gets to a point mid game where there are like 10 quest markers on your screen that are all branches and part of main quest. Its a big confusing game. Ill try again sometime and just turn off any quest objectives that arent the main objective idk.

same, can't get enough of it, and I complete 100% of quests, and loot damn near everything, max out neuromods and upgrades every playthrough (on 8th or so now?).

Anyone have decent ways to take down telepaths without all the enslaved humans getting killed? I took them all down with stun and mindjack at the ready, but when i took out the telepath, flipping thing blew up and killed all the knocked out humans. This occurred both near the cook's station and gym in crew quaterters.

I found it best to go to the objective list and deselect all and then go through and carefully select objectives within specific regions of the station - this helps meet objectives swiftly and coherently.

It does start to get somewhat cluttered.

I've spent only almost 14 hours on this game, i already dropped and uninstalled because of this feeling, this game just doesn't know when to stop scaling exploration and resource gathering. I bought it with interest in the story of Talos I and the Typhon, i recieved a soulslike level design instead with Stalker gameplay loop.

Honestly the game starts super interesting but the more it tries to expand on filler and unecessary narrative, it just starts insulting your usage of time, it really starts to feel you're not playing a fun game, just really wasting time instead, the worldbuilding starts to fall apart the more times you go through the same places again and again for 20 times and beyond.

Give it some time and it might grow on you. Play the game on it's terms for the gameplay. Forget the story if you feel that way. I don't know if this makes sense but I sometimes feel just like you described but then I forget the story/narrative and I just play for sake of the gameplay.

Eh, case is already lost to me, even more so i really like the design of the Mimics and how they work in gameplay, but all other enemies are just your typical RPG variants that i absolutely got tired of fighting endlessly every time i revisit a section of the station because this game also have this soulslike element of repopulating the levels on every visit.

If Turrets was supposed to help to keep that in check then they are an absolute joke because looks like even Mimics can chomp their health in like 3 slaps, they can't effectively kill anything if more than a single Mimic appears in their sight.

Just FYI, i don't like using the Typhon abilities and i also don't like using Stealth, this game gave me a false propaganda that it would be just Arkane's own Dead Space but in FPS, instead i was greeted with a buncha things that did not even remotely related to that besides the presentation.

It's actually not "fps" per say. If you try to play it like a typical fps game you are going to have a bad time - although with certain upgrades and abilities Prey can be played like typical fps but it's not very rewarding.
