Arkane Studios + System Shock?
What if somehow the System Shock IP landed on their lap a few years after Prey released. System Shock 1 remake has been attempted I want to say 5 times now. Was even greenlit. It's kinda like the story with Prey, where two other studios couldn't make it but Arkane came through.

What do you think? Would Arkane have been the best studio to remake System Shock?

System shock remake is still coming out, you can wishlist it right now
that said, i think arkane would fair better making system shock style immersive sims that isnt system shock, so prey was a great example

i get what you're saying. that makes sense.

someone remade ss2 in ue5 using the game's original assets and it was like, why? why make the game look identical? if that's your goal, then you're just seeking recognition for your skill but that won't improve the industry or the game. it would be better to remake it with modern graphics. but even then that has got to be really challenging. because the entire atmosphere will change after the lighting and graphics change. so then take some liberties to make it "feel" like system shock and be loved by players that call it an aged game. but how much liberties? is it a remake or should it be a sequel? if all this effort is going into modernizing it...

yes. i get exactly what you're saying.

System Shock remake has only been actually attempted once, just in such a shockingly incompetent way that it will have taken literally 4 times as long as they advertised it would by the time it comes out

"Arkane Studios + System Shock" They already did that, it's called Prey :-).

Prey really does feel like a (good) spiritual successor to System Shock 2 to me, more so than BioShock ever felt. I think maybe that was because BioShock never felt like a horror game to me. SS definitely is and Prey kinda is.

On the other hand, Prey also felt like Arkane wanted to make a BioShock game but they didn't have the rights to it so they made Prey instead.
