Mimics are so damn annoying
All they do is slow the game down as I spend all of my time hitting everything in sight with my wrench...

It's a survival game. It's supposed to be slow and stressful.

You mean survival HORROR right? Because when it comes down to it, all games are survival. It's not scary to go around beating up coffee cups, it's stupid.
The game is not survival horror. It is a methodical sci-fi First Person RPG. You are suppose to go super slow anyway. It has horror elements in the design, but by no means is the game scary at any point.

There is no point in hitting everything with your wrench anyway. Either use the Psychoscope or just don't bother trying to hit every object you come across. If you get jumped, you get jumped. Most of the time you won't.

I don't have the psychoscope yet. One time when I was literally jumped at by one of these mimics I lost 44 health! So it makes since to just beat up on everything. But that makes the game tedious and boring.

I suppose I could play on an easier difficulty, but that wouldn't be fun now would it? But neither is this. Sucks because I love Dishonored and System Shock

You can also listen to audio clues (there's a "click" sound that mimics constantly make) to avoid having to literally smash everything with your wrench. Until you got the psychoscope, of course. The game becomes significantly easier after you obtain the ability to spot mimics and pistol one-shot them.

Whenever you walk into a new room, crouch (it helps if you've taken the first stealth Neuromod), charge up a strong attack with your wrench and listen carefully as you advance. Something jumps at you, release the swing and bash it in. Most early game mimics were placed with some sort of hint, whether it's a sound cue, you seeing them move slightly when you enter the room or there being something not quite right about where they are (one of my proudest early game moments is looking behind a desk, noticing that there are two chairs, saying "That doesn't seem right" and then smashing one) like the stairs in the lobby where a trashcan rolls down the stairs as you approach, and yet there is a trashcan at the top. Otherwise, though, the mimics won't stay hidden for long if you get near them, so if you've gone through an area and nothing jumped at you, it's probably clear. They also aren't likely to be around if there are other, more visible types of enemies patrolling, at least not early game.

Also, quicksaving. Quicksaving lets you be a lot more aggressive, because there are no consequences!

Don't the objects bounce around a couple times after they're mimicked? Just hit any apples that bounce off counters.

I'm ultra early in the game, I only have 1 neuromod. I've picked up on the visual cues, if you scan a room early you'll also notice them running and forming into an object, and they seem to be pretty stupid about it, they form into an object right next to another one. That still doesn't help on hard difficulties and when there's 3 in one room...

Whenever you encounter a mimic (and ESPECIALLY more than one), back up and keep swinging. They'll generally end up spread out so you can take them one-on-one. If you get low on health, you can pause and use as many healing items as you want, if need be.

Also, drinking from a water cooler, water fountain or a sink gives you 1 health point back, and if you wait a few seconds you can do it again, for an unlimited number of times. It's a bit annoying to do, and is arguably gaming the system, but being at full health all the time makes mimics much less frustrating.

...Also also, you don't have to clear the whole lobby your first time through. If things are too frustrating, do enough to get to your office, then to the Hardware Labs, then get far enough into Psychotronics to get the psychoscope and then go back and search everything.

Your entire game will change for the better once you get the psychoscope.

One word.... Gloo gun. Well two words. But their fairly easy to spot... just not getting spotted until you can wack them can be an issue. I tend to gloo what I suspect is a mimic then wack it since mimics can't shift when trapped or partially trapped by a gloo ball.

Also don't know why but got in the habit of relocating bodies in rooms and so on where I'm not likely to go into or lock them into bathroom stalls. Just something feels off of you leave them in the open. Tried to gloo them up but the gloo eventually pops.

But yeah they make noises, often they make really stupid choices and do it in semi plain sight.

Going nerf gun also sort of tricks them into showing themselves.

You'll get a thing to help you spot mimics relativity early on in the game, and I got pretty good at recognizing them on my own after a while. There are several little cues you'll start to recognize as you play the game that will let you know there's a mimic around.

Mimics are the trash of this game, just wait until you meet Telepaths, Technopaths, Nightmare....
