can't open chests

I drew a wolf onto the platform and killed it (I thirst for the blood of beasts riddle) the chest appeared and says "E to check contents" but pressing E does nothing and this is the 3rd chest I have found and have been unable to open any of them. Am I doing something wrong?

I checked and during game alt-tab out to notepad and E button was working.

That sounds rather odd.
Can you check if you have a controller or virtual mouse installed?

I don't have either of them

I use a Rat7 cyborg mouse and a Logitec G413 mechanical keyboard.

Can you check if you have any third party mapping tools installed on your PC?
Can you also let me know if you have tried verifying your files?

I have verified files and also uninstalled and reinstalled the game. As for mapping tools I do not think I have anything of that nature. I had Logitec software installed but I unistalled it to see if it was the culprit but no luck.

been 4 months and still can't open chests, did I waste my money on this game cause like many people, I can't afford to be throwing it away.
