Shift 2 crashes when loading the career
Hello!

I have installed Shift 2 on my new gaming PC. After pressing enter on the CARRER option in the main menu the game seems to show a loading screen but after less than half a second it crashes to desktop with the "Shift 2 stopped working message".

Now I suspect this is because of the problems I had during the first time setup. When the PhysX setup was underway my Steam client froze for a couple of seconds and after it unfroze the first time setup ended even though it had another step in it. No prompt windows for the installation of PhysX popped up.

I tought a simple reinstall would fix the problem but the second time around it just skipped the first time setup.

I am running GeForce 340.52 drivers according to NVIDIA Experience.

Any ideas to stop the crashing or maybe get Steam to do the first time setup again?

Thank you!

this game is riddled with crashing problems. Here is the last fix i did for crashing it may work for you. follow this directory, C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Need For Speed Shift 2\install\PhysX , once inside the physX folder there is an .exe right click on it and select run as administrator, select repair and let it go through the prompts. once finished try the game again. This worked for me but i still have some crashes on certain parts of the game which i just now dont play. let me know if it helped.

Thanks for commenting.

I tried running the PhysX.exe since I read on the forum that that was the file that the first time setup runs, and since I had problems with it I gave it a shot. All it said was that the current installed drivers are newer and the installation will now close.

I will try your repair method right after I download the game again. Will get back to you after it's done.

Yep like I expected: right click on the .exe and select "Run as Administrator", I select the language, I accept the terms and conditions and a message pops up saying:

"The currently installed version of the driver is newer then what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

I don't even get a choice where I could select Repair as an option.
And even after a third re-install the game still crashes at the same point.

Any other tips?

i had the same problem at first. Here is what i did, I went to this link http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.13.1220-driver.html and downloaded the latest driver for Nvidia, there will be a green download button, I have a good virus scanner and it is a safe download.

After it downloaded I followed the prompt and let it install itself ect. Restart your computer,

now try the directory you tried before and see if you can run it as administrator. If it runs repair and let it finish. that should only take a few seconds. Restart your computer.

tell me if it worked.

Okay I downloaded the PhysX that you get on the link you sent me, installed it and restarted my computer.

I tried the other file but I got the same response as before that the currently installed version of the driver is newer then what you are trying to install.

But now I have tried the game again and now it works :tgrin:

Thank you so much for your help!

no prob, theres nothing worse then having something you purchased not work and no one taking the time to help. If you see someone else struggling with the same problem help them out. Enjoy the game.

My game still crashes at random times, like the retro races crash everytime it seems. Occasually the game will crash then i just close it all and try again and it will usually work. sometime a computer reset is needed. Its a pain but what can you do.

Hi,

I have a similar problem. I can't do any quick races. Also Me and my friend play online a lot and some tracks always crash the game.
I tired the link michaelkaybecker posted, but when i try to install i get: "The currently installed version of the drivers is newer than what you are trying to install, aborting the installation."

Anyone know what i can try?

Thanks,
