CD key not recognised on steam

I have tried connecting my Sims 3 game to steam but i keep getting the same message... Invalid Product Code.
I know it's the correct product code otherwise it wouldn't have installed on my laptop.
Can anyone tell me how to get this to work on steam?

You cannot. EA does not allow use of Sims keys on Steam.

If you have a product key FROM Steam, you do not need to enter it on Steam. The original post here says they're trying to "connect my Sims 3 game to Steam", which sounds like they bought it elsewhere and are trying to get a Steam copy. (Which doesn't work.)

If (instead) you're trying to register your Sims 3 game that you bought on Steam, go to thesims3.com. The product keys work (my game and all EPs are registered there). You do have to type it - the copy/paste doesn't work properly with the form, so make sure you get all your 1's and L's correct when you.

You cannot register through Origin, though, you have to register through thesims3.com. The Origin form will not take Sims 3 keys. Once registered, though, Origin will know you have a copy of the game and let you download and play through it.

The sims3.com site is saying your key is invalid? If so, and you're sure you entered it correctly from your Steam library, you'll need to contact Steam support for further help.
