What does NRAS story progression do?

It uses the other Sims in your neighbourhoods and makes them more proactive in finding jobs, promotions, marriage, kids, ect. They also make friends, have fallings out, break up, cheat, have arguements, while the mod lets you know what they're up to. I found it gives the whole neighbourhood a lot more life... it isn't just your family.

Oh man, that sounds perfect! I hate how static my neighborhood feels. No one really communicates with each other like in Sims 2. While this gives a more realistic, cold suburban feel, it doesn't make for fun gameplay. Trying out that mod.

I love NRAAS story progression! Anyway, I have a custom CAS, the one that AndrewArcade uses that I can't remember the name of, a few Zelda tattoo's, and Los Aniegos, was it? Planning on getting NRAAS dresser so my Sims can have random clothes.

I use custom sliders, new hairs and clothes ect to enhance customization of my characters and mod thats fix certain things (like that annoy thing where sims choke on food all the time, whats up with that) I try not to put on to many to reduce lagg

hmm what mods DONT i use? hahaha I use almost all of tWALLAN (Nraas mods) i use some vampire tweak mod.. hm one that allows you to invite up to 500 party guest, another that lets me queue my sims interactions up to 20. i have the ice cream and deep dryer so i got a mod that doesn't make the sims go crazy over it. got one that makes my butler never cook food.. oh gosh many many more.. lol

haha omg yes PC is a lot better. you click on the phone or their cellphone>call for services> then hire a butler, those damned butlers cook A lot though. its annoying

Mods and stuff is exactly why I don't bother with Xbox or PS3 or anything else. (Well, that and I can only afford to buy one thing, so PC it was.) They're useless.
Hey, I just downloaded the Story Progression mod and I can't seem to find the setting to filter/turn off the notifications anywhere... Can someone show me where they are? I've looked everywhere but I can't find it at all ;-;

To answer the original question:

Overwatch, ErrorTrap, Story Progression, Traveller, Master Controller, DebugEnabler, NoIntro, OnceRead (makes your Sim ignore books they have already read), Register, Retuner, Tempest (for Seasons tweaking), Woohooer (a.k.a. "the mod which must not be named" on the official forums), No Autonomous Capture the Moment, and a couple of pregnancy meshes/textures to fill gaps where the game didn't have appropriate ones. Obviously a fan of NRaas mods.

Click on a computer or City Hall --> NRaas --> Story Progression --> General Options --> Stories

You'll probably want to click on All Stories (it is set to true by default, so you get notices about everyone in town) and only turn on Blood (relatives) and Friends. Note that Story Progression exempts the active household from its stuff, so you shouldn't be getting story notices about them anyway.

On your smartphone, call for services and Butler should be at the very bottom of the services list. They will need their own bed and are generally a pain in the rear since they don't actually do much, but they will usually change and feed infants and toddlers when they need it and you don't have to worry about calling a babysitter if you have a butler. Not what butlers do in real life, but there you go.
