Just an idea: Skill Decay
I think a slow decay of skills you don't use much would be realistic. Thus if your sim gets on the treadmill, tries it, then decides that it was not his/her cup of tea and spends the next 2 years sitting on the couch watching tv and eating peanut butter fried sandwiches... he would lose the skill point for fitness he gained so long ago.

I think and I could be very wrong on this, I'm sure I seen a game mod on Mod the sims for this

That would piss me off. Sometimes you have to have a lot of different skills, especially in certain jobs - so once you gain skill points in one thing, once you get promoted you now have a different skill you need to get points in, but you still need the other skill. It would be really hard to manage a bunch of a different skills, on top of everything else, with the way timing works in the game.

If you want realistic then stop playing The Sims and get out of the house.

This sounds interesting. Not sure how it would work with certain skills. The charisma skill is a brutal experience, personally speaking.

There is no integrated way to check fitness, other than an eyeball check, but there are mods available to extend functionality.

Sims do gain weight when overeating, and lose weight during exercise activities. Weight in The Sims 3 is overall defined by the genetic precursors your Sim has. Gaining weight can be a short term effect if your Sim is genetically inclined to be thin, and vice versa (rubber band).

This is cool. You could make it so that once mastered this does not occur, and there's a lifetime hapiness award to stop this from decaying or slow it down?

They do gain weight yeah, but ofcourse you can also control it with the bonus point things, (The actual name is escaping my mind at this time) where you can get certain perks which can disable the get fat stuff

I am trying to make that kind of mod that for example sport skill decay if not used for to long. But I fail on making that. Game dont allow parameters of skill to be decreased :/ It can be only slowed down even to very very slow state almost not any gain but game ignores negative values :(
Maxis are childish company and they make that game brutally for kiddies so people loving realism can forget about sims getting more like real life. From sims 1 and 2 they just go full re...d with sims 3
Lots of dumbed down stuff and much morea easy gameplay. They started to force that game upon 4-9 yo kiddies and silly girls. No more SIM in sims :/ Maxis are %^!#$&$%@ dumb.
To bad.
