There is no integrated way to check fitness, other than an eyeball check, but there are mods available to extend functionality.
Sims do gain weight when overeating, and lose weight during exercise activities. Weight in The Sims 3 is overall defined by the genetic precursors your Sim has. Gaining weight can be a short term effect if your Sim is genetically inclined to be thin, and vice versa (rubber band).
Maxis are childish company and they make that game brutally for kiddies so people loving realism can forget about sims getting more like real life. From sims 1 and 2 they just go full re...d with sims 3
Lots of dumbed down stuff and much morea easy gameplay. They started to force that game upon 4-9 yo kiddies and silly girls. No more SIM in sims :/ Maxis are %^!#$&$%@ dumb.
