Sims 3 bought on Steam but have Supernatural on disc and says I need to install sims 3 first!
OK I bought Sims 3 on Steam for my girlfriend to play cause she loves sims, no problems with the game at all. My problem is I got her Supernatural expansion for Xmas at Gamestop on black friday when it was dirt cheap and when I try to install it it says... "This product requiers an installed copy of The Sims 3..." She really wants to play it and I feel bad because I bought it for her thinking she would have no problems... Please any help will do, Thanks.

Wait, you're trying to install it or is your girlfriend trying to?

So you have the base game on your account and you are trying to install supernatural? With steam, im pretty sure if you buy a dlc it automatically installs, but if that isnt working try redeeming the cd key on origin.

No I have supernatural on a disc not on steam... when i put the disc in the install wizard pops up then i get a message saying i need to install sims 3 first but it is installed because my GF plays it.

Sims 3 isn't a Steamworks title, so you can't redeem the key on Steam. You'll have to try to redeem the keys on Origin.

Oh, ok. Go to the bottom left corner where it says add a game and click activate a product on steam. Put your Serial Code in and it should be put into your library.

Or do what Rimbaldo says. It might work either way.

i dont remember where i saw this but i read somewhere that if u get a game off steam they recommend you to get them on steam and if u get some off steam and buy the others not from steam your gona have bugy issues.. if that makes any sense lol

You’re better off downloading the Origin client "Here, http://www.origin.com/uk/download ", Adding the Sims key from steam to Origin (this can be found by right clicking The sims in Libary and selecting "Show CD Key"), and registering your key from the disk on origin and play it digitally instead of through steam, this way it will save all issues you cannot mix retail with digital copies unfortunatly it might be done but with alot of issues. Goodluck!
