Pets is also a game changer. Once installed, you'll get strays, wild horses, etc. This is actually the pack I reccomend everyone gets (along with World Adventures and Seasons).
I actually had a blast with Island Paradise, but I wouldn't reccomend it as my "first" expansion. It doens't bring a whole lot of new stuff to the table (although the houseboats are, admittedly, really awesome).
So I'd say Pets or Supernatural, but you really should pick up WA and Seasons eventually ;)
Supernatural gets my vote as well. Just get the mod to disable zombies spawning during Full moons and it's golden. That's it's only issue, cause zombies are dumb and will cause all sorts of annoying routing errors.
I heavily regret buying pets, cause once it's installed you get wild-life even if you disable pet adoptions, and they can and will find every little hole in the routing to clog the game up.
I'd say that's a fair statement, although the last patch helped out Island Paradise a lot.
Pets can still be a bit... wonky sometimes.
@ kaiyl_kariashi: I htought you could disable wandering animals in the Options... I'll have to go check tonight
