The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Launcher lurking still open in background?
I finally reinstalled this on my laptop with Win 11. However, when I try to quit, although the game closes, the launcher doesn't (according to Task Manager)-- but there is no window for the launcher, and when I hit "stop" on Steam, it says "stopping" forever and never actually seems to stop. How do I shut down the launcher properly? Thanks for any help!

You can shut it down from the Task Manager.
I'm not on Windows 11, but on Windows 10, at the bottom right of my screen is a tiny up arrow that looks like this ^. I click on that, and then right-click on the Sims 3 icon and shut the launcher down from there.
Thanks! But when I shut it down from Task Manager, then if I restart it through Steam, Steam tells me the game is already open and it won't open again. I need to shut the launcher down properly somehow, but there's no command or button in the launcher to do that.

Yes there is. You see that "X" button in the top-right of the launcher? Click that, and it'll tell you the process is still running, and ask you if you want to close the program; it's JUST talking about the launcher. If you click on "Yes", it'll close the launcher.

So, when I do that, it just kills the launcher *window* but the process is still running in Task Manager and also according to Steam.

ETA (because I had to do this just now)-- when I go to reboot my computer, it tells me there's still an app running. If I cancel the reboot, I get a message box that is obviously from the Sims 3 launcher telling me that something is uploading and that exiting the program will cancel the upload. THIS dialogue DOES kill the launcher if I tell it I want to exit. However, I can't get this popup window to appear at all unless I start to reboot my computer. And without the popup there's no way to kill the launcher. (It's also unlikely that anything even really is uploading. All my custom content was uploaded already.)

I still use Windows 10, did they get rid of that little tray you could click into that would show programs running in the background? I always close the sims 3 launcher from there

Assuming you mean the menu with the ^ as HiFive previously referred to, my games do not appear in that tray, only Steam and Discord and a bunch of Windows software I never use.

Most of my games don't usually appear in the ^ spot, but the Sims 3 launcher icon DOES appear there and if you right-click on it you should be able to close the launcher. If the launcher icon does not appear there, then I would have to do more research to help you.

So after tracking it a bit: it does appear in that tray sometimes, but even when it does appear, switching to it doesn't work. It does nothing, it doesn't bring up the launcher at all, nothing appears to happen.

Since, when I go to reboot my computer in this situation, there is that dialogue that will appear that makes it seem like it's caught on this upload thing, my current theory is that when I switch to the launcher, it's already caught on that same dialogue window about uploading-- but for some reason the window *isn't appearing*, so it looks like nothing is happening.

Thanks for any help you can provide with it... seeing the forums swamped with similar questions right now, I wonder if there's a big bug going on, haha.

When you say, "switching to it", it sounds like you are left-clicking on the icon. Don't do that. Right-click on the icon. You should then get a small list of actions. Choose the item that shuts the launcher down. I can't remember what the action is called. It might just be "exit".
