Can't move to new town.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong or being impatient? I have over 1 million in funds, I can move and buy a property, but when I click the little arrow to start playing on my lot, it just sits there. I can scroll around, try to buy other properties, etc, but never get any farther than that.

I have no issues trying to move properties within the same town, but I can't seem to move to a different town.

Has anyone else encountered this? I have no mods, only the expansions from here and things bought directly from the Sims 3 Store online.

Thanks in advance.

So I want to make sure I understand what you're doing -- bear with me :-)

This is how I'd try to move my Sim to a new town, are you doing it the same way or some other?

  • Go into your game and go to "Edit Town".
  • Select the household you want to move and click "Save Copy to Library".
  • Go to the "Main Menu".
  • Click "New Game" or load the save you want.
  • Place the lot (with house) from the library in the new neighborhood.

that's not the only way anymore. I can move the save game without making the game making a new game.

But, it was a different option on the phone. I think it was something like:

Real estate - buy a new house - move to a different neighbourhood."

But I can't remember but that's how I did it, but I have most of the games so maybe that could be why?

I haven't tried the edit town approach, that's a good idea. I was just trying to use the in game moving feature that you use your cell phone or computer.

Ah, I see what you mean. I tried this option from the smart phone and it worked, though there were a lot of warnings on it. "Save your game first!" No kidding!

It did work though. The only thing I can think of is what usually stops people from being able to choose a house/play -- corrupted files or bad mods/custom content. Have you tried doing the "Factory Reset" (rename your Documents\Sims 3 folder, and let the game generate a new one), and seeing if it works with a default new Sim?

I've done a full install, deleted the directories that aren't removed by the install, and full reinstall. Just kind of sits there. Wasn't sure if I was doing something wrong or if it's a known bug. Happens on my girlfriend's computer too.

No idea if anyone will see this as it's an old thread but I'm having exactly the same problem too. Have any of you been able to find a solution? I've got all the expansions and mods but I've tried it without them too. What I did was try to move from that island place to Riverview (because the school/stadium thing broke alot of stuff already and from what i knew Riverview didn't have that) and i found a house I wanted. It said 'You're now ready to play' or something like that and had a tick appear like what happens when you start a new game. I click it and it grays out. That's it. I can click on other properties to buy them and go back to the previous world. I've tried going into edit town when it happens and it says that no-one lives in that house at all. It's just another empty house. If i go back to the selecting a house then i get where I was before. Anyone got a fix or at least a way around it?
