how do you get rocks and gems to spawn in your backyard

on my other computer i had a backyard that was randomly getting space rocks, emeralds and gold, but when i changed my yard they stopped spawning!
how do i spawn them?

Some lots have spawn points, others do not. There are cheats you can use to add spawners, but these can have an adverse effect on your game. I recommend the lifetime reward "Collection Helper", which lets you see all the collectibles (rocks, gems, bugs, etc) on the map.

Nope. There's an invisible item called a "spawner" that makes rocks and gems. If you want one in your backyard, you need to use a cheat to do it.

1. While on your Sims' lot, press control + shift + c to open the cheat window.
   
2. Type in: testingCheatsEnabled true
   
3. Go to buy mode.
   
4. Open the cheats window again and type in: buyDebug on
   
5. Look for the query mark category in buy mode; the spawners are in there. Note there are many different spawners - here's a list: http://www.carls-sims-4-guide.com/forum/index.php?topic=3357.0
   
6. When done, open the cheats window and type in: buyDebug off
   
7. Open the cheats window again and type in: testingCheatsEnabled false
