Sims 3 Base from EA Humble Bundle but want Steam instead
I'm wanting to take advantage of the 60% sale going on for Sims 3, but I have a couple concerns and I hope you guys can help me.

I had bought the EA Humble Bundle and got the keys for the Sims 3 Base game and the expansion that they gave out with that promo, however I want to have my games on Steam rather than on Origin. I'm not angry at all about having to repurchase the base game and one expansion since I had gotten the Humble Bundle version at such a discounted price.

However, because I already have the game on Origin, what happens if I get the games on Steam? I could be blind, but I don't see anything about Origin being required to launch the game, or is that the EA Account that the footnote in the Steam Store is talking about? If it does require Origin, does anyone know what will happen if I try to add the games to my Origin account that already has TS3 Base and the "Starter Pack" that gave Late Night and High End Loft Stuff?

I'm not sure if EA will just let me merge my extra TS3 keys into my Origin account and not throw a fit over it. I just want to be able to take advantage of the sale and have TS3 on my preferred platform.

TL;DR- Does Steam Sims 3 require Origin to run at all? If so, will adding my extra keys make Origin flip it's cow pie?

All DLC you buy on Steam you can play on Steam (as long as you have the Steam Sims 3 base game).
You can also register all Sims 3 DLCs you buy on Steam to Origin (and can then play play them all via Origin).

However you can not transfer anything from Origin to Steam in order to play it with the Steam version of the Sims 3 Base Game

So if I purchase Sims 3 and expansions on Steam, I don't require an Origin login to play what I purchase on Steam only? I don't want to resort to having multiple Origin accounts just for one game series.

Exactly.
What you purchase on Steam can be played via Steam and doesn´t require Origin. You just have to be aware that all DLCs have to be bought from Steam in order to work with Steam.

Everything that you buy outside of Steam ((On-/Offline)-Retailers or Origin itself) only works with Origin.
Just play the freakin' game anywhere and have some fun, if you have it already in Origin, why spending this much on steam? That's stupid.

It is stupid, but some people want to have all their games in one place. I'm one example.

Thanks Proteus, I knew about the Retail box copies being Origin only, but those are always so expensive anyways. The excellent news is being able to keep it seperate and avoid possible retailer/platform conflict.

system- Origin has zero value to me personally since I can't backup my games correctly on that platform (I tried) and I have all my friends on Steam. Whatever floats your boat.

All you have to do is add the game via the add non-steam game from the games menu at the top of the screen. Simple no repurchas needed.

It doesn't work that way, if you don't have Sims 3 base game on Steam, you cannot buy the DLC, the Steam Store stops you from making a purchase. If you have it on Origin only, you're hosed.

It would be different if Steam would allow the use of the Origin key to register your copy of Sims 3 to the Steam library though. However, they don't allow that, which is why I had to ask about this.

I decided to ask this here instead of starting a new discussion. I have the Sims 3 base game on CD ROM. Can I buy the expansions on Steam and still play them with the CD, or do I have to buy the base game through Steam?
You need to have the Base game on Steam to allow purchases of the DLC on Steam.
Thanks for the quick response. Appreciate it.
