you need to make a folder in

Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3

called Mods

in the Mods folder make 2 subfolders called

Packages
Overrides

now with notepad make a file called Resource.cfg and in that file put this in there

Priority 501
DirectoryFiles Files/... autoupdate
Priority 1000
PackedFile Overrides/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Overrides/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 500
PackedFile Packages/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Packages/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 499
PackedFile Test/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Test/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority -50
PackedFile Probation/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*/*.package
PackedFile Probation/*/*/*/*/*.package
Priority 500
PackedFile DCCache/*.dbc

save this file and put it in the Mods folder now you can drop .package files in either the Overrides or Packages folder and they will work in game if they are sims3pack files you double click those and the launcher will install them.

user mods that are in the mods\packages folder do not show up in the launchers download tab its because you put them in manual.

Would you please type properly? Assuming you have enough time to write all of that, you have time to use full words.

I deleted my sims 3 folder a month ago, because the downloads weren't working and buggy, so i followed a recommendation of a steam user. however, i think it screwed it up bec now my mods don't show up. I made the packages and overrides folders and put them in my mods folder, as u said, however, mods STILL don't show up. any cc instlled in launcher shows up.

I have NEVER had this problem ever. oh...note...i also switched my games to origins so i could uninstall the island paradise and into the future which were hella buggy.

SUGGESTIONS???

Check all of this:

  • You have a Mods folder inside your Documents directory's "The Sims 3" folder. (Which itself is inside the "Electronic Arts" folder.)

  • Inside that Mods folder is a file named resource.cfg. Make sure that's exactly it: resource.cfg. If it's resources.cfg, for example, it won't work. Be sure Windows is not fooling you with hidden file extensions, in which case it's real name might be resource.cfg.txt, which also will not work. If you don't know how to show file extensions under Windows, then Google it and find out.

  • Be sure that your resource.cfg file has the right content. An example is here[simpedia.sims2cri.com].

  • Be sure that inside your Mods folder is a directory named Packages.

  • Be sure the mods you want to install are inside that Packages folder.

  • Be sure your mods are of the .package extension. If they are .zip, unzip them. If they are .Sims3Pack, you have to install them with the launcher, not as a mod. Mods are only .package files.

  • Be sure you're looking in the right place for the mod you install... some content creators get really creative with the categories they put things in. Their site should tell you where to find the thing you're installing. Some mods don't produce an "in-game" thing at all, such as replacement skins. Some mods are "scripting" mods, so when they are properly installed, you'll see a dialog pop up on the Sims main menu telling you that you're running these scripts.

Crunine,

Thanks. I followed all that, and as I said again, I have never had any problems with mods. But I deleted my folders before when I had island paradise because the downloads weren't showing up (when I didn't use the mods folder) and ever since then I have been having issues. Yesterday, I added the resource.cfg notes dcument myself. Was that okay? And I followed every direction. I can try to see, again, if they show up. But I tried three times yesterday and they did not.
