The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Any way to delete sims 3 folder without deleting your saved sims game?
ugh,i hate the fact i am writing yet ANOTHER discussion about my world of the frustrating sims game. On one of my threads some people told me that after you update the game, you have to delete the sims 3 folder and reinstall the downlaods. well, it worked. yet then DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE? came up AGAIN yesterday, when i opepend up my launcher, and I pushed "yes." well guess what? it deleted everything, even my saved sims game i worked so hard on, and i felt like crying. before i deleted the folder i dragged my downloads and saved sims folder on desktop then put it back in, but it didn't matter. the game made a new folder automaticcaly, even when i slipped those folders back in after start up.

so i said, "im not falling for this update crap again." so today when it said you wanna update? i pushed "no." well guess what? the downloads din't show up again. so now i had to reinstall again.

so my question is: How come the downloads been just deleting on their own? even when i check to make sure they are installed in both the launcher and in my downloads folder?? i just don't get it. and how can i prevent from a saved sim game deleting once again? thanks.

Uhm, deleting the Sims 3 folder in My Documents removes all installed content & saves (and lots of other things). Whoever told you to do that is an idiot. Only deleting the Cache files in the Sims 3 folder is recommended after patching if you use mods.

I've never had the Launcher ask me to update, Steam automatically installs the updates for me...does it not do that for you?

But to answer your question about how to remove The Sims 3 directory and keep your saves -- you would temporarily rename your "The Sims 3" folder, let the game generate a new one, then move the "Saves" folder from the former into the new one.

slovenian89 is correct, however, you do not have to delete that folder in order to update/patch, and the game shouldn't be removing it when it updates and patches either. Removing that folder is called a "factory default reset", and it's normally only used when files have become corrupt and can no longer be used.

And, finally, f you use Steam, the launcher should not be asking you to update. Steam does your updating for you.
