The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Sims 3 [There was an error during startup. Please see the log for more details] Help if you can!!
So When I start up The Sims 3 Launcher on Steam, It comes up with said message in the discussion topic. I have had this problem before and it has been fixed with verifying the integrity of the files. Now I understand that over the years, people have been having the same issue, and have solved it by deleting the registry keys left over when you actually uninstall the Sims 3. I have gone through process on deleting them properly, but the problem still persists. Even after I reboot the computer.

It just refuses to start the launcher properly?

I have my game patched through to the latest update (I assume they haven't updated in a while?? Unless they recently updated it so it could work on Windows 10 idk) Steam takes care of all that for me.

I have also uninstalled and reinstalled many times. (I however, do not want to manually uninstall the sims 3. Unfortunately it has been a solution, but I'd like it to be a last resort) I have no idea whether this is because I recently installed windows 10, but I am highly doubting it???

I usually launch the game through CCmagic, which is a program made for Sims 3 modders to organise all the different sims3packs or packages. e.g mods. To make the game run smoothly, which it had been working extremely well. (Highly recommended if you are using mods tbh) CCmagic has a system where you link your Launcher in with the program so all the EP's show up when I launch the game through CCmagic. The launcher needs to be active for this to work. (Also aware that it may be a problem regarding mods but I guess I'm just rejecting that whole idea to find out if that is /actually/ the problem.

I was playing the game for about half an hour, until it crashed for the first time in ages. I had recently downloaded the 'Showtime' EP and assumed that THAT was the issue.

Because my computer is somewhat old (but has been updated from time to time] I made the mistake of putting too many EP's into the game, which made it quite laggy at times. Too much for my computer to handle perhaps. Or it only started to lag when I installed Showtime. Before that it was running fine, even with the mods. I clicked the tick box where Showtime was including the Showtime key that goes with it. It uninstalled it in a flash. (Which led to me deleting the registry files using regedit.

So basically ever since I uninstalled Showtime it has done this. I recently just uninstalled The sims 3 along with ALL of the DLC's instead of just showtime to see if that would work. No luck.

I am deciding whether or not If I should install showtime again to see if that was actually the problem, but lmao idk

I have tried almost every solution suggested through searching google, (besides manual uninstalling but let's be real here, I really cannot be bothered to try that. I will if I need to though.) if anyone has any advice or solutions then please reply!! Would be greatly appreciated.

(Feel free to comment on whether you have the problem or not, I am only really okay with that since I'm assuming that helps with getting this discussion out more into the public?)

There are a number of tihngs to try, but rather than go into them all here, I'll point to my troubleshooting guide, below, with a few recommendations.

First, be sure that CCmagic is not the problem, and launch through Steam instead.

Then I'd also try a temporary "Factory Reset" (section 3.6 below). If that works, you know something is borked either in your custom content, mods, or save files, and can try to narrow it down from there.

And then definitely take a look at sections 2.5, 3.3, 3.4, and 3.9.

Unfortunetely, the solutions provided did not work, though I may try them again in time. Thank you for them though I really do appreciate it!

At the last moment I thought it may be a Steam issue, so I re-installed Steam and got rid of any trace of Sims 3 on the computer.

Reinstalled Sims 3 as well and still the same outcome with the launcher. I also uninstalled cc magic and all the mods from the game (before I did all that said stuff with steam and s3.)

I'm completely at a loss so I've decided to try and use the disk version I own even though I have no expansions connected to it. If it works I'll continue from there on how I can save up to get my hands on the other expansions.

On the bottom left hand cornor of the launcher though when it comes up with the message, the patch basically has all 0's. Would I perhaps have to patch it myself? I know steam tends to do that itself but idk

Yeah, there's something gone wrong there. Steam should patch itself just fine. The guide also has tips for refreshing Steam and so on, but I really think that doing the "Factory Reset" should produce some useful results. I can't figure out why it doesn't.

Either way, you shouldn't have to buy everything again just to not use the Steam version - if everything is registered to the same account at thesims3.com, you then own Origin copies of everything and should be able to download and install using Origin.

That said: if the problem is in your Documents directory (in there, inside Electronic Arts\The Sims 3), new installs will not help at all.

Im having the same problem..... im just not a modder.... ummm.. if i install using origin will it be able to load the games i have said from steam.

Yes, if the reason why your game won't work isn't that your saves are corrupt.

I will definitely try that wow, thank you so much for that info!! I'll also do the "Factory Reset" option. I'll let you know what the results are.

i got sims 3 on origin now and a load my game and alot of my houses that i built..have been messed up.. Example, the 2 story decks that i have made on many different houses have transformed into single decks... and it sucks.

So I finally found the time to register my games to TS3 website and it now works on Origin!! Besides having to download stuff again, but I really don't mind as long as it is working. Thank you so much for your help!!
