Crashing On New Game
I'm trying to start new games but when the game goes to load after selecting the neighborhood, loading either stops progress indefinitely or it crashes.

I have Sims 3 in my Defender exclusion list and I even tried shutting down defender and all security apps.

I am running mods and store content but new games won't load base game neighborhoods either.

I can load my existing saves just fine. It's just new games that won't load.

Any ideas?

Not certain, but perhaps you have too many saved games? You may need to delete temporary files as well from the "Electronic Arts""The Sims 3" folder sometimes as well in order for the game to run more smoothly. (The Sims 3 is a folder that you would need to click on after first clicking on the the Electronic Arts folder.) I do not know what else to tell you that might help you, but if you know which temporarily files you are supposed to delete they will regenerate after you delete them that in some cases may help your game run more smoothly from situations that make your game unplayable. As for my first question that I asked earlier maybe that is the reason why you are having issues with starting a new game, but I do not know for a certainty if it is possible to have too many saved game files on a Sims game. And so, do not take my word for that involving my first question, but the deletion of temporary files at least in some cases is proven to help resolve problems.

Could be... although the game ran perfectly fine before. I don't have a whole lot of saved games but I do have a lot of added content, store content and mods.

My system's perfectly capable of handling it all but I don't know if Sims 3 is.

I'll try deleting temporary files but I'm afraid to go messing around with mods.

I think it's more likely that the program is missing some key file(s) that got obliterated by Windows cleanup or CCleaner or something.

Here is a link provided with instructions specifically related to which temporary files you are supposed to delete on The Sims 3. Any cache files in addition to launcher files, thumbnails, and world caches (optional) based on this link can be deleted. I hope this helps. https://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files

Thanks! I'll do that and see what happens.

Appreciate the help.

I've resolved the issue in case anyone wants to know for future reference.

The solution was to move the Sims 3 folder in documents onto the desktop. This makes the game generate a clean folder with all its contents the next time it starts, replacing any files that have gone missing or borked.

This is the folder under user/mydocuments/electronicarts/sims3. NOT the game's install folder under the Steam directory.

It is important to make a backup of the folder somewhere else on your computer or an external drive just in case.

AND IT'S IMPORTANT to copy your SAVE FILES and any HOUSEHOLDS or LOTS that you have exported because the game WILL NOT generate the contents of the documents folder with those files.

The folder also will not generate with any cc or mods you've installed. You'll have to do all that over again.

Thanks for the update. I'll keep a record of this thread in my files in case anyone has this problem in the future. :_wrench_: :cozyspaceengineersc:

ADDENDUM

My post says the solution is to move the Sims 3 folder in documents onto the hard drive.

I must have been drunk or tired when i wrote that.

Desktop not hard drive

Granted, it works if you move it to any directory other than where the game puts it. But whatever.
