The first thing I'd recommend is going into your settings and turning off memories. Next, go in-game, open your scrapbook, and delete EVERYTHING. Then make a new save using Save As and give it a new file name. Now exit the game and go take a look at the size of the save file. Hopefully it's lost a lot of weight. From here on out, forget that "Save" exists. It's always "Save As" with a new file name (you can rotate among three or four save files, though) and always quit without saving. "Save and Quit" should be viewed as akin to sticking metal objects into electrical outlets. It may not kill you now, but it will eventually.
I'm keeping a quoted copy of this answer in my files for answers to problems with the game.
