Don't take this the wrong way, but are you using a legal copy of this game? Nothing you posted passes the sniff test to me. They never stopped selling simpoints, and nothing about how you had to redownload EA App makes much sense.
Not being able to log in doesn't make much sense, either. You just use the "forget password" link and get a new one sent to you, but you're trying to make this sound as if this is all so difficult to resolve. What's going on here, I wonder?
It's 2024. Of course I know how to ask for forgotten passwords. I've used that many times. I've also never pirated anything. I've bought and downloaded the Sims 3 from Steam a long time ago. Including many of the DLCs.
I've been playing for over a week. I haven't had an issue with logging in, until I clicked on the link to Simpoints and that lead me to a dead end. I thought that it was because I had EA uninstalled. So, I reluctantly reinstalled it. Well, it didn't recognize the password that I have been using for a long time. So, I clicked on forgot password and EA let me reset it. Which was fine, because I've been wanting to change the password I had been using to a stronger one that I am currently using. So, I reset the password. I'm able to login to EA just fine. But I was still getting linked to a dead end, when it came to those simpoints. I was mostly just curious if they still sold those, because of how dated they are. I know that when I bought and installed Sims 3 that it was still under Origins. The Sims also used to be under Maxis. I've tried clicking on the link several times and it goes no where. I don't know if this was resent or what. But resolved that it was probably something EA might not be supporting anymore. So, I moved on and decided to focus my attention back to playing the Sims 3.
So, I went to login with the new password and the game did not recognize it. I was logged into The Sims 3, when I made the change. So maybe that might have caused and issue there. I've tried the new one and the one I was just using before the change. Nothing. It's like it is stuck in some kind of password limbo. Anyways, I decided to login offline. I never use the online features anyways. I'm a 47 year old woman and I don't really care to share updates on facebook. No one cares. I don't care. As long as I'm able to continue playing as I have been, I'm not going to stress about it.
I was mostly curious if other Sim 3 players have experienced the same issue. Did they resolve the issue? How did they resolve it? Am I able to still enjoy the game without it? Is the online features relevant anymore? Is EA going to phase out Sims 3, like they did Sims 2? That was the summery of my questions.
Anyways, Thank you Cadh2000 for responding being helpful.
So, you didn't try searching for any solution? Took me all of five seconds:

He helped you by telling you that he had the same problem, without offering any solutions whatsoever? How is telling you that he hasn't been able to log in for a year helpful?
Anyway, my apologies but I found your OP a little weird because it was convoluted and over explaining why you couldn't log in anymore. You also said that EA isn't selling simpoints anymore, which is not true. Over explaining was a red flag, as well as claiming that they stopped selling simpoints. It's why I responded the way I did.
I'm still having a hard time understanding your set up. You say that when you bought The Sims, it was under Origins, but you're posting at the Steam forums, which is a completely different platform (?). How are you playing the game? Through EA App or Steam? If you're doing EA App and can log into it with flying colors, then you should be able to log into the Sims 3 launcher. If you're still having trouble, the most obvious solution would be to open up EA App again, click on the reset password link and change your password again to see that it works, making sure that you've verified it. (Maybe you didn't verify through email?)
If worse comes to worse, here are some solutions you can try:

No, I mean unable to log in AT ALL via browser OR launcher. Also I helped by answering the question they asked, which was about whether the game can be played even if the OP couldn't login.
I told them that the game plays just fine without logging in as long as they weren't trying to use the very few online features.
You are the troll. Those links I posted addressed your problem directly (problem logging in via launcher/browser). Quote from first link:
Other suggestions include:
1. Turning off VPN when visiting the site.
I'm blocking you, BTW. In the end, my response was for the OP, not you. It's not "helpful" to tell someone to just adapt to not being able to log into their account when there are plenty of solutions to fix the problem.
Have a nice day.
P.S. Oh, btw, not everyone uses a VPN even if she does!
