Downside of EP Latenight - Homeowners Association... ug..
so... I decided to buy a lot that was a "unlabled" lot to build on, you know the ones that just look like little triangles rather then a house or a community icon, and I headed off to it to start building, my sim arrived and was all ready to build on the lot, and before I could even lay a wall or foundation down... I start getting pestered by "Home Owners Association doesn't allow this"

Latenight EP adds the home owners association, and on some worlds (yes even Riverwood) it can seriously become a pain in the ass, stopping you from building completely on a empty lot. Why they added this without a built in way (other then cheats) to be able to build on your lot is beyond me, its a major pain in the ass, and frankly I'd love to be able to drive up to the homeowners association and bulldoze their building so they no longer exist.

Its a "Feature" that should of been made togglable. Great job EA.

For those who want to know how to get past it:

press CTRL+SHIFT+C

type testingcheatsenabled true

press CTRL+SHIFT+C

type RestrictBuildBuyinBuildings Off

Edit the lot.

To prevent routing issues, make sure after your done editing, make sure you turn RestrictBuildBuyinBuildings back on. (RestrictBuildBuyinBuildings On)

Have you tried building/buying ... from edit town ... before moving in?

Being new to The Sims 3, I'm curious if this could just be an attempt at politely telling one what one is not normally allowed to do? - i.e. what happens if there isn't a Sim there for the Home Owners Association to communicate with?

Nah its part of the Late Night expansion that was designed to keep people from cluttering the outside of the lots in the town that came with it, thing is, it should of only effected that town, been made specific to a lot type, or made so that it could be toggled off in options, none of which they did, so in some cases it becomes more of a pain in the neck then other cases. First time i've actually had it stop me from building in riverview, which was wierd, and it was only that one specific lot type there, but have had it interfere with other lots, so, thought I would share for others how to get around it that were new to the game without too much hair pulling.

There is no sims for the Home Owners Association, its just a 'thing' they added in to stop people from building outside the lots. i.e. like adding a pond on your property.

Edit Town it shouldn't interfere at all, but im building using the sims funds, expanding their house, fixing up properties they bought, etc.

hense why it should be a feature we could shut off, or restrict on a per lot basis. The 'real' home owners assocation doesn't cover 'every' house 'everywhere' just within specific areas. looked for a mod to disable it but came up empty handed.
