But using the "Edit Town" feature to do that requires the clipboard, which I removed because I didn't know what it was at the time. How do I re-enable that, and how do I DIS-able roommates?
There is an option on the phone under real estate to enable/disable the roommates service, even in normal neighborhood. Note this service is under real estate, not services.
Roommates are not restricted to university, you can have some in any neighborhood as long as the household is not full.
Disable this service and the uncontrolable roommates will leave.
If it does not work do exactly what HiFive says. It is a safe solution for almost every problem in game.
The roommate feature coming with university can be bugged when used outside of university but so far the only bug I encountered in the last 10 years is roommates not showing up when the option is activated.
Generally the roommate is a townie, like Abraham Finkel or Dorothy de Mayo if you play in Sunset valley. They are not mere nuisance like the ones you get at the university. If you are lucky enough to get Dorothy de Mayo it is like having a free butler and better then the normal one, she will do the chores autonomously and will not perturb your family life. If you have children or teens the roommate will help with the homework take care of the toddlers and entertain the children. You can assign the roommate a bed and restrict some rooms. And if you are unlucky and get a really bad one you can always change it for another one.
When it works without bugs it is a nice feature.
Once I got Magella Shanahan in Dragon valley where she was the acrobat NPC, she was so good everyone became best friend, so I had to evict her only to be able to invite her after and ask her to move in because it is the only way to make a roommate playable.
Yeah, I found out on my own how to disable the "Roommates", and pretty soon after that, all the other roommates left. My household is back to how it used to be, which is just how I want it for the time being.
