If I had the money, I'd probably get the whole thing, but I don't, so I just buy one or two very researched items at a time. The expansions all come first, of course.
If they ever put the stuff packs up for a much more reasonable price, I'll get those, because I think they should really be priced much lower than the expansions.
Again, if I wasn't so darned poor these days, I'd really like to just get everything, so I'd get the whole collection.
However, there's one DLC I would advice to not get, which is the Islands one (with mermaids). That one is super buggy.
That's crazy talk, IMO. The EP adds so much in the way of content and gameplay (houseboats, tons of cool and sexy beachwear, tropical decor, etc.). It's just the world that is buggy, which can be easily fixed by either downloading a fixed version of Isla Paradiso or fixing it yourself. Or, a player can download a tropical themed player world for free or buy Sunlit Tides from the Sims 3 world.
Thank you all
I've never actually seen that world before. How is it buggy?
The world is Isla Paradiso. It comes with the Island Paradise EP. It is super laggy because of some routing and other issues with the world involving houseboats. Even if you have the best computer in the world, it lags.
Then one day, I played the "perfect game". I did everything perfectly. No mistakes. It was flawless. What a let down. Had to play Sims 4 for a couple of years. ..
On a per hour basis, Sims 3 is a great buy! Far better than any "story" game where you pay the story a couple of times and you're done.

Sims 3 is criminally underrated, especially with all the mods and player made worlds. Even the Stuff Packs and Sims 3 store, which everyone hated at the time, add a lot in the way of gameplay (basketball court, gondolas, restaurants, etc.). Sims 4 started off really strong but devolved into a mobile style freemium game that plays more like a paper doll simulator if anything. The political extremism also spoiled the game, and I'm saying that as a progressive.
