Strange Input Lag Issue / Delayed Camera Movement
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU1-zeXpa-U&ab_channel=PowerGaming7

I have a weird issue when I'm in build / buy mode if I have the standard cursor on screen it makes the game simulation stutter and delay my camera movements. For example I will stop rotating the camera and it will just keep going, like it is a latency issue. It is quite difficult to notice in the video but when I switch to building a wall, the lag completely disappears (same with flooring) but when I go back to the standard cursor, everything is delayed again.

I have the following mods (mainly for trying to fix this issue):

LazyDuchess Smoothness Patch 2.1
NRaas Error Trap
Nraas Master Controller
Nraas Overwatch
F-P2010FordMustangShelbyGT500ts301

Its been doing this since before the mods.

Next, I have also followed the below steam guide and actioned all of the essential fixes to no avail: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...

I have limited my FPS to my monitors refresh rate with vsync enabled (144hz) via Nvidia Control panel & the smoothness patch config (TPS also set to 1000) I've heard, with this game being so old that high frame rates causes issues, similar to Skyrim. But I have seen other people running the same frame rate fine. Also it doesn't makes sense as when I'm using the wall / carpet mode the game is very smooth. I have tried to limit the fps to 60, still no change.

Finally, I have tried verifying, reinstalling the game, installing performance mods. I have tried the game fullscreen and windowed, dropping my graphics settings, cleaning my save, same results.

Note: I am currently in the Edit Town mode building a house within my main Sims world

Posting to see if anyone has any ideas or any similar experience. I'd greatly appreciate any assistance at this point!

Specs:
i7 9700k 3.6ghz
32GB RAM
RTX 2080 Super
M.2 SSD 500GB
2TB SSD - TS3 is installed on this

Thanks!

This game is held together by paperclips and duct tape.

Even with all those performance mods and the like it still runs like as s.

Some people can live with the stutters these days, some can not.

Personally while i enjoyed Sims3 back in the day i can't be bothered with the awful pathfinding and stuttering anymore and i'm currently using a heavily modded Sims4 version until another life simulation game hits the market.

Are you sure it's been doing that from before the mods? I only ask because there's a known conflict between the Lazy Duchess Patch and NRAAS. You can't have both running at the same time.

Did you install the Sims 3 GPU Add-On Support mod from Nexus Mods?

Do you have "Object Hiding" enabled, because I remember having this issue when I forgot to check it.

Is this happening to every single lot in every world, just one lot in one world or all the lots in all worlds? If it seems to be happening in one world or one lot, perhaps something's become corrupted in that particular Save File, Lot or World.

Don't install and reinstall, BTW. It's not necessary. Drag your current Sims 3 folder to desktop, then launch the game to regenerate the folder.

Not true. It actually runs better than it ever did. It's just that people have to remember to cap their FPS, as well as download and run the Sims 3 GPU Add-On Support mod from Nexus Mods. When the GPU doesn't get recognized, the game runs like crap because there's a file that guesstimates how much VRAM and CPU can be used, and it caps everything really low.

I also have a strong suspicion that the mods that everyone used to use to have the game running on slower systems are now outdated. Ever since I upgraded my computers, I haven't needed to use any mods. The only exception to the rule is the world, Isla Paradiso. That will run like hot garbage unless players download a fixed version or go through the trouble of deleting houseboats and staircases.

How about no?

Done all those things (the framecap, smooth patch with 1500TDS , gpu fix edit, nraas mods, ..) and it still stutters moving around town.

I've been modding this game for ages, i know my way around, the game just runs like as s.

I've got a 7800X3D, 64Gb DDR5 and a 7900XTX btw; i runs sims 4 at +200FPS uncapped with over 150 mods at 4K.

Read the second paragraph, and let's try this again.

I did read it , it's the same with or without performance mods.

It's probably the best Sims game after Sims 2 but it's also the worst optimized and is notorious for running like as s.

Why you feel the need to defend it's performance is beyond me.

If you're going to ask me that, can I ask why you feel the need to trash its performance?

I don't really mean that in all seriousness; I'm just going according to your logic.

BTW, I'm not defending anything. The OP's issue is not typical for this game and because it's not, I tried offering some solutions other than suggesting that there's nothing they can do because the game is hopelessly buggy. This kind of response of yours is why I'm pretty much giving up on this franchise and the gaming community. Everything has to be a culture war, a case of defending or protecting. Maybe I'm defending The Sims 3 or maybe I'm such a hopeless computer geek who's found how to troubleshoot the game and want to share what I learned with others, so they're not experiencing the levels of frustration like I used to.

Hi both, thank you so much for the advice (apologies for the late reply). I managed to find the issue. The issue was down to a multitude of factors. Mainly the fact the game just is un-optimised for modern machines.

I found the issue was down to a combination the LazyDuchess patch + 144hz + The games traffic + The age of my save. I set the fps back down to 60fps for extra stability. and then I enabled Nraas Overwatch to reset vehicles every hour. Initially it got rid of 50,000 vehicles, subsequent resets only removed 2000 at a time but this seems to have completely stabilised my camera movements. Not sure why in the world the game generates so many vehicles but the game is 14 years old

Another thing that helped is making sure to clear my Sims inventories + resetting the town often with master controller and generally tweaking Nraas mods to clean up more entities within the game world. Error trap is also doing a lot of optimisation for me. Having sim routing mods like Nraas Go Here & OhRudi's fixes also help with reducing load on the games engine.

The LazyDuchess patch was actually only just highlighting the issue, as when I removed the patch from my game, I noticed that the camera sensitivity went back to normal (occasionally slowed down, but not unplayable) but randomly it span around if a lag spike occurred, which was very often without the patch installed, I suspect the sensitivity issue is down to the LazyDuchess patch clearing the lag spikes up but as the simulation slows down regardless due to the low ram usage and the fact it wants to generate loads of vehicles in my game for some reason, it slowed my camera to a crawl as its physically unable to process all that data + my inputs.

Either way, I am now able to play the game properly. Thanks again for the help. It's greatly appreciated.

TLDR:

To fix
1. Set fps & refresh rate to 60. You can probably go higher, but the game is more stable at these frame rates. (Even with 144hz monitor, the game is still very playable even if you are used to the higher frame / refresh rates of modern titles)

2. Run Nraas Overwatch to reset vehicles hourly. Also whilst you are here, turn off the nightly notifications as they do get annoying.

3. Optimise further by resetting the town often with Master Controller & including more items within the scope to reset for Nraas Overwatch & Master Controller.

4. Install routing optimisation mods such as:

Thanks for checking in, OP, and explaining how you resolved the issue in detail. There is nothing worse than a person posting a problem, coming back to say they fixed it but not saying how.
