Skylights?
Can this be done in-game?

From what I recall you can make a, sort of, skylight but that depends on whether or not you have "The Stones Throw Greenhouse[store.thesims3.com]" and its building pieces, including the glass roof pieces. Just be aware the don't mesh well at all with normal roofs. To place them you make a FLAT roof and place them like roof ornaments, piecing them together to get the desired shape.
