Adding someone elses sim to your game?
How does one do this?

Friend of mine sent me their sim character via a The Sims 3 Custom Content file and I tried looking online but couldnt find anything about where to place this file. I also went through the steam game folder and never saw any character files in the first place.

Is this possible? I figured it was since I seen so many people downloading character files and I know people are downloading mods.

How I send my friends the Sims I make is first using CAS and then saving my Sim to the Sim Bin, there should be an option for that if you click on the Sim's icon. Next I need to find the SavedSims folder. I do that by going into my File Explorer and look for the Electronic Arts folder in Documents. In there is my Sims 3 folder and by going into SavedSims I can find the Sim I saved into the Sim Bin. Then I take the file I want and send it into somewhere like Discord because they are small enough to send.

If I want to add a Sim I downloaded, I simply locate that Sim's file and place them in the SavedSims Folder.

TL;DR
1.) Locate your Electronic Arts folder in Documents under File Explorer.
2.) Find the SavedSims folder under The Sims 3.
3.) Place your downloaded Sim into the folder.
4.) They should appear in the Sim Bin when you enter CAS.

Thanks for the reply, my issue was I had to save a sim to the bin before the savedsim folder would appear, I didnt have a savedsim folder and why i never saw anything related to that. I now have it taken care of off to the game to figure out putting that sim in an already existing world I have.

Pretty sure you can add Sims in via Edit Town, though I haven't gotten into that myself yet

Yes you can do so through the Edit Town function.

I learnt a bit more and discovered you can also save a Household along with their Lot. You can then place them in other Towns when you create a new save file. The Sims retain their Lifetime Rewards and Skills so this can be a bit of a cheat way to have a quick start. Alternatively you can do what I do and just have them as neighbours while playing a different Household, which is always fun as you can come across them in your playthrough.
