Re: Registering The Sims 3 with Origin - I would recommend that you first attempt to use one of your CD-Keys/codes to register a game on the Origin Site. If that works - Great. If not then you are back to convincing Origin's Support staff that you are the legit (Original?) owner of those CDs and not someone who picked them up second-hand at some swap-meet somewhere.
I'll try that. i think (while trying to fix all the problems i had last Friday) i found the tab where you can register your games when logged into Origin, so i'll try that. I also bought all of my games NEW (the base game from a local Game Stop and all the other stuff from Target) because finding games with serial numbers in second hand and thrift stores is pretty much something you have to avoid because the serial number is likely used up already. On top of that, in my area at least, it's super duper rare to find an online game that typically requires a serial number boxed in a thift store.
As for having to run the ts3CAW.exe, did you also have to run it as administator to get it to install properly?
For executables, like the CAW program, it is usually easier to check the "run as administrator" option on the compatibility tab of the file's properties, while for (hopefully) run-once executables used to install a program - it is easier to just use "run as administrator" instead of open (or run).
So, short answer, for whichever - Yes, run it as administrator.
So I took the advice of user and poster NetPCDoc (thank you sir or madam!) and went to a friends house where he let me download the Create a World .exe from his computer onto a USB.
Just to cover my bases, i have both the 1.67 version (worldtool.exe) and 1.69 version (ts3caw.exe) saved on the USB...
The 1.67 version will download but not run.
the 1.69 version (running it from the USB and running as Administrator), FINALLY downloaded and even ran some of my old Create a World .world files, which was nice and refreshing after all the crap i've been through trying to get this to work...
HOWEVER!
Not only do i still have to sign into origin to use the 'run in game' feature (which lets you build structures and place buildings you've built while playing your normal Sims 3 experience), BUT THE RUN IN GAME FEATURE NOW REFUSES TO WORK PROPERLY. I get an error saying i don't have the proper graphics card when the normal Sims 3 game runs fine with my current set up (i haven't changed anything about my machine since i first got it almost 4 years ago now).
So now I'm left with 2 options as my sort of kamikaze last resort:
1. figure out a way to roll back my game so i can run the 1.67 version of CAW again
or
2. Abandon The Sims and EA forever, try to recruit a group of programers that are as angry with EA as i am and make a Sims 3 competetor that won't be a total ♥♥♥♥ to the playerbase.
But with either of those options, I'm still abandoning EA and I'm not buying any of their recent games anymore (past games from the 'EA - challenge everything' era on any system, including ones on Steam are still good though)
Just in case - check the executables properties for both The Sims 3 and the Create-A-World tool. Edit: for The Sims 3 - maybe should be both Launcher and Game executables; making 3 properties to view.
I can't really help you with the Origin Login issue - that is part of having The Sims 3 from Origin. The Origin client does have an offline mode - just defaults to always attempting to go online (rather than ask) when it opens; and The Sims 3 itself doesn't require that you be online - as long as you don't mind doing without the online download/upload/share-with-friends features.
So recently I had an urge to revisit the Sims 3. It's a game i still love, though how Origin has broken it is still unbelievable. But i ended up finding something:
www.answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Current-Patch-1-67-Manual-links-and-more/td-p/67858
I found this after finding a forum on Mod The Sims on my 3DS and decided to check it out, downloading the manual patch onto a USB using the spare computer and then transferring it to mine and saving it in a new folder.
I'm thinking of manually back-patching (is that even a term?) my game and seeing how it works. Plus I still have the old .exe for CAW backed up as well for both the 1.67 and 1.69 patch of the main game. Haven't done it yet because I've been doing a lot of stuff that hasn't been gaming related for a while now, but i thought i should at least post the link for anyone cursed with the Origin version like myself...
I still have all the physical discs and serial numbers but if i can't register them with steam to get the steam versions of each, then it would be a waste of money re-buying games i already own on disk.
