The Sims™ 3

The Sims™ 3

Can't dowload Create a World - Please help, I'm desperate!
I bought Showtime yesterday at a local Target and since my disk drive doesn't work as well as it used to, i had to install it through Origin... Long story short, i can no longer seem to play the Sims 3 without logging into Origin first and to top it all off - CREATE A WORLD KEPT CRASHING UPON LAUNCH.

I kept getting the "The Sims 3 Create a World - Beta has crashed! Exception..." I don't remember all of the text, but i got the error and i immediately contacted EA Customer service. They helped me as best i could, one of the game advisors even gave me a coupon to use on Origin (as if i'd ever use it though...) for my time, helped me reinstall the Base Game and helped me change a few other settings from her end. She was nice, but we couldn't seem to fix Create a World. She said as a last resort, uninstall CAW and reinstall it fromt he Sims 3 site.

I also realized the download page for CAW had changed. Now they have 2 versions: the one for the 1.67 version of the game and the one for the 1.69 version. I tried to download the 1.69 version, HOWEVER then Windows pops up and says "the signature may be corrupt or invalid". Keep in mind, I am trying to download Create a World from the Sims 3 site. Yet i keep getting this error message! I tried contacting EA customer service again but the game advisor i got that time seemed too in a rush to help me.

Long story short, i just wanna download Create a World 1.69 version so that i can continue using the tool. The sims 3 site doesn't seem to want to work when it comes to downloading said version. The 1.67 version DID install, but CRASHES upon launch.

At this rate I'm considering downloading the 1.69 version from another site... I just want my game to work. I've talked with customer service all night last night (at the time of this post) and I'm too fed up to continue going in circles. THE OFFICIAL SIMS 3 SITE CREATE A WORLD DOWNLOAD WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY FOR ME. If anyone else has had this problem and knows of a solution, i'd greatly appreciate it. If anyone knows a safe place to potentially download Create a World 1.69 version, i think i'm desperate enough to try it so long as it's the legit CAW software (in my experience Simmers tend to help one another, let's hope that remains true).

;-; Please help...

the 1.69 version is for origin, the 1.67 version is for steam, the steam install is a little tricky to get create a world to work properly with it, you have to do a little bit in the registery editor.

If you do a search via the web for the 1.69 version of the create a world tool, alot of people have been having issues with it working for them, many of them rolled their game version back from what I read so they could use the earlier tool.

only place i know for CAW resources is here: https://cawster.wordpress.com/ but the CAW EXE files haven't been updated there sense the 1.63 version

I've contacted customer service (for the 4th time now) and copy + pasted my conversation with that person into an MSWord document. I'll paste the entire convo below this responce (and THANK YOU for responding by the way, i thought i was going nuts). The game advisor i talked to said that 'the specialists' were going to fix the issue at some point (but of course they gave me no exact date or a way to contact one of these 'specialists' directly.) I even asked if there was a way i could just download and use the 1.67 version and fix it somehow to use it until the 1.69 download is fixed, but they said no.

Is there a way i can get either the 1.67 version to work or maybe rollback my game to make it the 1.67 version and not the 1.69 version?

>.< this whole thing is so confusing, i've even considered just never playing any Sims games again or even trying to group a bunch of programmers together to try making a Sims competetor to finally give EA a reason to behave.

But i am greatful for your response once again, if i had a teleporter i'd send you a dessert basket! I can't even put into words how greatful i am that i got at least one response because EA is just so ridiculous these days!
This is the full conversation i had today on 2/28/16 with the game advisor i was connected to regarding my case (keep in mind the 'you' is me and i have no edited out the name of the advisor. The only thing i edited out was the personal information i had to give this person to help my case):

Narendra: Thanks for contacting EA Customer Experience, my name is Narendra. How may I assist you today?
You: hello
You: I've been having numerous problems since Friday I've yet to fully resolve.
You: On Friday 2/26/16 I purchased The Sims 3 Showtime at a local Target. Due to the fact my disc drive isn’t in the best shape, I had to register and install my game through Origin. However, not only had Origin download a bunch of other stuff into my game that prevents me from playing it offline (that is to say: without having to log into Origin in the first place), but now the Create a World software refuses to work. I talked with numerous Game Advisors who tried to help me run the game and fix my problem. At this point the base game and all of my other expansions work fine… But they still haven’t helped me fixing my Create a World problem. Every time I started up Create a World (which had been working fine prior to when I purchased Showtime) I got this error message: “The Sims 3 Create a World – Beta has crashed! Exception Information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.” One Game Advisor (who helped me a ton getting the base game working again) told me that as a last resort I should just uninstall and reinstall Create a World… So I did… I also discovered that the Sims 3 Create a World download page had changed; now offering 2 versions of the software: One compatible with the 1.67 version of the game and one compatible with the 1.69 version of the game. But now I bring you to my main problem: The 1.69 version download must be broken… Every time I try downloading it I always get a Windows pop up saying “The signature is corrupt or invalid” This happens every single time. The 1.67 version WILL download, BUT IT WILL CRASH WITH AN ERROR MESSAGE UPON LAUNCHING THE PROGRAM.
You: I'm very distressed with this issue and have yet to resolve it... I can't seem to find any way to post this problem on the normal The Sims forums either and I can't find any other solutions on the internet as of yet...
narendra: Hello , how are you?
Narendra: Do not worry , I will try my level best to resolve your issue.
Narendra: Before we start may I please know your name and email address?
You: my name is _______________ and my email is _________________
you: i've been contacting customer support on and off for a few days now due to this problem...
narendra: Thanks for the name and email address ______________
Narendra: Would you mind if I place your chat on hold for couple of minutes to look into the issue and checking the account details?
You: ok then
narendra: Thanks for the hold , I appreciate your patience.
narendraI: checked the issue on my end as well as consult this to my specialist team as well.
Narendra: This is a known issue our customers are facing right now.
Narendra: Our dedicated studio team is working day and night to fix it in a best possible way.
narendraI: have a good news for you as well, the root cause of the issue is identified now studio team is just trying to fix it in a best possible way.
You: So they're going to fix the Create a World (1.69 version) download then?
Narendra: yes , you are right.
You: when will it be fixed? I've been trying to re download it for the past few days, I'm eager to start using it again if it'll be fixed
narendra: When you will launch the game in next few hours it will automatically fixed the issue for you.
You: how does that work exactly? I currently don't have any version of Create a World installed and the 1.69 download is still currently broken
you: the 1.67 version will download and install, but I get the error message upon trying to launch the program
you: When will a fixed Create a World 1.69 download be available? and how would I go about launching it?
Narendra: There is not estimated time limit for the fix.
Narendra: But I know that the studio team is fixing the issue.
Narendra: You will automatically get the update in your game.
Narendra: You do not need to install or download the update.
Narendra: It will automatically work for you.
You: ah.
You: So for now I should wait on downloading the 1.69 compatible version of Create a World until it's fixed?
You: or is there a way to fix the 1.67 compatible version on my end until the 1.69 version is fixed?
Narendra: No , there is not fix for this issue right now. You need to wait for next few hours to get a fix on this issue.
Narendra: Today is Sunday, so no specialists are available , I would suggest you to contact us back tomorrow to get a fix for this issue.
You: what time are the specialists available on weekdays? When am I most likely to get a response from them?
narendra: They will be available tomorrow.
you: is there a way I can contact the specialists directly?
narendra: No, there is no way to get in contact with them directly. you need to contact us first.
you: ok then. I guess I'll bring this issue up again tomorrow.
narendra:Thanks
narendra: Thanks for giving me the pleasure to assist you.
narendra:Please don't forgot to click on "END CHAT" button to end this chat session securely Instead of closing chat Window
you: ok, thank you for the information.

You have me just a bit confused?
Did your disk (CD?) drive not work? - or were you having difficulties with installing Showtime with Steam's TS3? THERE is a difference (and that difference is important to me)!

Your having CAW installed - should have allowed you to actually (technically) install your Showtime CD - but then Steam's TS3 shouldn't have recognized that Showtime was there? Are you able to confirm any of this?

Ah, sorry for any extra confusion!

I actually bought the Sims 3 base game before i knew Steam even existed (and before i even signed up for Steam)! So everything Sims 3 related (Expansion packs and Stuff packs) i own on a physical disc purchased in stores IRL. When you get it on a disc (this was back when my computer was still shiny and new), you pop it into the disk/CD drive The Sims 3 will run the installation process, blah blah blah... You also had to install EA Downloads Manager (which would later be replaced with Origin).

So no, I'm not reffering to the Steam version in any way shape or form. Because my laptop is now 4 years old and it doesn't like to read the disks anymore, i had to install later expansion packs i bought through Origin (which is pretty decent for downloading but an overall horrible service; DEAR VALVE, PLEASE BUY OUT EA!)

I'm only really posting this problem in the Steam forums because 1. The Sims 3 Steam community has been super duper friendly to me and 2. For some reason TheSims.com forums must be bugged because i cannot find a +New Post button ANYWHERE. So i couldn't even ask about it there due to that mutton being missing in action and i'm also tired of contacting EA customer service... Simmers are pretty decent people, i've met nothing but good and helpful players within the Sims player base. So i thought that if anything, someone could give me some tips or references regarding my game in the Steam forum if i can't post it in the official Sims forums that EA runs.

Okay - that clears some things up - thank you.

I had some old Sims CDs that I had installed on my computer back when.
And when I tried to migrate to the Origin Client - the CD's EA-Link got in the way?
Seems that the EA-Link from the old CDs somehow conflicts with the Origin Client, with one of them telling you that rather than updating as you are obviously trying to do - you should use the update feature on what is already installed (or something along this line).

Anywhay - if you are going to use the Origin Client - I recommend that you make sure that you have all of the old CD stuff uninstalled (especially the extra freebies - like the EA-Link and CAW) before you attempt downloading or installing from Origin. Do double check that you have the Expansion and Stuff Pack CDs properly registered - before you uninstall them.

BTW - should you have old CDs from TS2, and still like to play that earlier version, the support folks at Origin can be talked into giving you access to The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection (as an Origin digital download) - Advertised to contain everything Officially Released as part of The Sims 2; unfortunately this does not include anything from the TS2 Exchange or other custom content, just the Official items (EPs, SPs, etc).

I've never tried registering my Sims 3 discs with Steam, but i was told that wasn't allowed. Due to this recent issue i even considered the possibility of re-buying all of my Sims 3 stuff through Steam... But that doesn't mean i can avoid Origin completely either...

Also what is EA-Link? >.< I'm afraid i'm pretty much a dummy. I RARELY use Origin and i haven't installed the Base Game using a disc in YEARS.

A Game Advisor i talked to through customer service (not the one i mentioned a few posts above, a different one i talked to whose convo i didn't think to save at the time on 2/26/16) helped me reinstall a new base game through Origin to try getting CAW to work (she said that if the base game worked, CAW would work... obviously she was wrong, but she at least helped me get my base game working again).

I'm even considering backing up all of my existing stuff and uninstall everything Sims related i have and try installing the Base Game from the disc again (i think that was the last disc my disc/CD drive was able to read, so there might be some small glimmer of hope). I got the disc in June 2012 about a week after i bought the computer (i came a little late into the Sims 3). It's when i started getting into the later Expansion packs that the discs refused to be read (i have an old post about how i somehow couldn't install Seasons using the disc somewhere on Steam, though i'm not sure if it's still up).

Maybe if i try installing it from the disc (since it is fairly old), maybe I'll be able to play it without logging into Origin too... >.< why does all this technology have to be so confusing?

Actually - I meant registered with EA or Origin? If they were never registered - you should be able to do it on the Origin site; If at some point you did officially register them with EA - you will need to be able to access the EA (now an Origin?) account that was used to register them.

Any game you can register on Origin's site - so Origin says - entitles you to a digital download of that game, to your Origin Client; the only way Origin will distribute to their Apple/Mac customers. And, yes, Origin is suppose to have access to all of the old EA databases where such games were registered back when.

EA-Link was one of those "Nice" freebies that allowed one to link in to the EA site for a particular EA game (such as The Sims 3) for patches, updates, and such other freebies as an EA Exchange for that game. I found it in the EA Games folder on the Start Menu, after I installed one of the Retail CDs.

Re: corrupted CAW download - I didn't have too much trouble downloading either version of the CAW - but I do think I remember something about how the publishers creditials could not be properly verified, and it was up to the user to decide how much said user trusted that the site providing the download was/is a legitimate site.

I would imagine that programs protecting you from Viruses, Adware and Spyware might put that a little more strongly - if they are active while you are downloading.

If your computer has USB ports - might try downloading to a thumb drive on another computer?

I think i officially registered it with EA YEARS ago when i first got the game. I went to the Sims 3 site and i had to make an account with my email address and i think i registered my game from there... Of course that was a long friggin tme ago... But yeah. I'm a land-lubber when it comes to games. I make sure that everything is registered and buy everything legit and I'm super duper hesitant about downloading stuff from unknown sites (i've had a lot of experiences with viruses)

I get the little pop up saying the signature is corrupt. I fired up my computer today and found all of my attempts to download the ts3CAW.exe in my recycling bin with the little 'Run as Admin' symbol next to it

I suppose if i wanted to continue running the program i'd have to remove it from the recycling bin and continue running it as Admin?

My anti-virus AVG (free edition) HAS REMOVED A TROJAN from a past version of CAW (this was back in 2014 i believe after reinstalling my Sims related stuff after wiping my computer, which is a long story on it's own). So I am hesitant about that, but i just want this software to friggin work ;_;

The 1.67 version i can download but i get the error message. The 1.69 version is my only hope of getting the software back.

I also have no other working computers in my house with internet (or they just flat out don't work for one weird reason or another, F my luck with computers...) So i can't install TS3 on it and try downloading and installing the 1.69 version of CAW on them... And the only other Simmer i know IRL plays the Mac version... ;_;

Which makes the current question:
Can you figure out what creditials you used way back when to register your CDs with EA - at least enough to convince Origin's support staff that you are the legit owner of said CDs?

I still have all of the boxes with the discs and the manuals/papers inside with all the serial numbers. Do you think that would be enough?

Is there a local library that might have use-in-the-library computers that you might use to download the CAW file?

There's a local library in walking distance of my place ^^

But won't attempting to run and install the CAW file on a computer of any kind that doesn't have The Sims 3 already installed on it fail to work regardless?

(and thank you for reminding me of the fact libraries have computers 0_0 i didn't think of that)
