Is the daycare profession gone?

I bought the rest of sims 3 today via the holiday sale to complete all my missing bits of it.
I started a new game, and among some of the weird changes like time portals appearing in my yard, and the university sending me mascots, I can't seem to find the daycare profession anymore on the computer. Is this a bug or a feature? I was hoping the latter patches would restore my ability to chat with todlers too once they can speak.

It seems like the festival isn't in the town square anymore either even though the profile picture still says the season.

I've potty trained the toddlers but for some reason they aren't going to the potty but still soiling their diapers...

Maybe all the DLC did not finish installing or reconfiguring things with your existing DLC? And so, everything is only working when each part is finished?

I think I found the bug with the profession unfortunately I have no idea how to fix it. It seems if I begin a town unmodified via the edit menue, the profession works fine, but if i use the edit town menue first to add households with children in, then place my sim, the profession is missing from the list.

Nope that wasn't it. Not sure what's happeneing. It seems to be gone , then sometimes of a sudden it reappears when I check later. Also when it was on had a couple of bugs like my uniform would be invisible causing my sim to be either invisible or nude.

I FIXED IT!!!

It turns out when I delete my old save file and make a new one, but use the same name the backup save was not being deleted from the game folder for some reason and the game somehow was confusing the two so that the profession wasn't listed because it thought I was already a member of it. I deleted the old backup save files manually from the games folder and now the profession is back.

You use the "Save As" button, right? Never use the "Save" button (except for the very first save of a new family) because it overwrites the old save and is known to cause a lot of bugs in the game. I always use the "Save As" button and make sequentially-numbered saves with it. Example: Frio Sunset Valley 01, Frio Sunset Valley 02, etc.

Ah, tnx. I didn't know. I usually only use save as to make tangent progressions but mor eoften than not have just been clicking save.

Well it seems the problem might not be with the town file saves but the sim one. I play with the same sim in multiple towns. Becauese I started with Sunset Valley and am the daycare there, it seems to have it missing from other towns (unless perhaps I use a different sim?)

Interesting. Are you saying that your Sim is travelling to different towns and not able to open a new daycare in the new town? I've never had a daycare Sim, so I don't know how it works, nor have I moved my Sims to another town (well, maybe once, briefly). Hopefully someone with more experience with either of those will chime in here.

No, I made a new game for each map on the list just to look at all of the towns. I might try moving in game to see if does let me bring my profession with me to each town. I alway load the same sim houshold via move in household. A self-insert character.

Okay. I make my own backups of saves for families I enjoy playing. I then remove almost all of the saves for those families from the Sims 3 folder so that the game will load up faster. When you start a new game in a different town, why don't you move the saves for your previous family to your own backup folder and see if the daycare profession is now available for your new family?
