Large fires and other emergencies should be fine, so your sim shouldn't run into this issue much, if at all, at higher levels of the profession.
On top of that, if that happens multiple times I don't see the point in upgrading the truck as it probably resets the entire thing when it has to respawn
But maybe things have changed. There are items in the base game now that were never included when the game first came out. So who knows. It's so frustrating when things don't work as they should, hope you can get it resolved.
hmm. Have you tried playing the firefighter in Twinbrooks? That is the town it was designed for (and where I played). Maybe that has something to do with it.
Also, maybe tell the sim to swim in the pool after they call the fire department, so they don't accidentally burn up. while you're playing the firefighter.
The typical workaround for this issue is to just level up the sim, either with cheats or by having them work on the Athletic and Handiness skills, so they get to handle large fires and other emergencies rather than only small fires.
However, once the fire truck disappears, I think that sim's career is sufficiently borked that it needs to be removed. In this particular case, I'd have the sim quit, delete the fire station, save, quit, reload, place the fire station back, and make the sim rejoin. Mods can cheat up the career level and remove any stray fire trucks around town if necessary.
Yeah, that's a decent possibility which goes along with the patch puzzlezaddict brought up, perhaps some of the new items which came in the problem patch are causing the issue.
