It's a very different experience, only allowed to spend time with Sims while on a mission with them which have fairly short time limits, probably not what OP's looking for I would guess.

But if store bought content is being brought up, may as well mention the Dragon Village DLC which I've heard is meant to be a medieval look town, though nothing done to stop sims using cars or anything like that, hence why I've heard many say it sucks lol!
