space needed for everything sims3?
Getting closer to clicking the buy button! If I buy the collection bundle, which I believe is all the expansions and stuff packs, and then obtain all the Store stuff and worlds, and then get a ton of cc, about how much space will my computer need for all that?

How much room does sims3 everything use on your computer?

The Sims 3 program files, all packs included, take up about 32 GB of storage. All the store stuff combined is around 5 GB, but that's an estimate because I don't own it all; I'm going off of a guide to installing the content. Some of the items are no longer obtainable, and others you may not be interested in, not to mention SimPoints are still somewhat expensive. So you'd probably end up with significantly less data even with all the worlds and your favorite sets.

For custom content, results vary somewhat, but heavy cc users report that Sims 3 can only take about 10 GB before the load times and other performance issues start to impact gameplay. So your limit there would be how much of an impact you could stand. You could of course have different folders with different cc collections, which would drive up the total storage needs accordingly.

Saves can take a significant amount of space too. A standard save with no traveling could easily get over 200 MB after a few generations, and you'll want backups. Worlds your sims have traveled to can add at least 30 MB per world to the save folder, more if you use a mod to actually play multiple worlds. So it's really impossible to tell you how much space you'll need for saves: it really depends on your playstyle and how many backups you want.

One thing that can help tremendously is disabling memories. These cause save bloat as well as in-game performance issues even on high-end systems. Aside from that, using a save cleaner every once in a while can help, but only to a limited extent.

As for how much space my game data takes up, I am a very bad example because I keep lots of backups for multiple saves I'm playing and also have a separate folder for building and some other random stuff put away. But I have a 500 GB drive where Sims 3 uses probably about 80-100 GB; I'd have to do some math. Point is, you don't need to be like me; 60 GB should cover everything quite comfortably, and 50 is easily doable even with lots of store and custom content.

Excellent, thank you! Very good information there! Sounds like a new harddrive (dedicated to the sims and nothing else) is in my future lol

Again, thank you so much for your detailed response. I have such fond memories of playing that game, and simmers being so nice is a big part of that.

Most gaming PC's these days comes with at least a 1TB HDD, sounds like you are best off buying a new (secondhand) PC so that you can enjoy the latest games as well :)

i think this one is a few years old but it's an 17 with nvidia 1660Ti and 16 ram. The only thing it has less hard drive space than I would normally get but it was the best deal available at the time.

However, good news. I just checked and it does have a lot more room than I thought on the D drive, so now instead of buying an external drive then waiting til I can afford the collection bundle, I can get the bundle right away. WHEEEEEEEEEE guess who's gonna sim their brains out :D :D :D :D
