What you can do, if you want, is register your Steam product codes in the EA app, using whatever account you want. This doesn't affect how you play through Steam, but it does allow you to use the Sims 3 Store and Exchange.
You'd sign into that site with the same email address and password you use in the EA App account that owns Sims 3, and because the product code on that account would match the product code in the registry files for your Steam game, the site would allow you download free content, and you could purchase more items if you wanted.
Downloading Store or Exchange content does not require the EA App to be running or even present on your computer. It all works fine with just the basic Steam install.
Would this work with Sims 4? I cannot play Sims 4 since my Steam is connected to an unknown account. I've tried support but currently they're not really doing much of anything.
This is for Sims 3 only, unfortunately. The Sims 4 still requires the EA App to play.
