HELP! Can't build a ceiling from scratch!!

I bought an empty lot so I could build a house from scratch - I want my house to have multiple stories, but when I got to adding the ceiling to the first floor I got stuck. I was only able to lay out the ceiling along the walls. For some reason, it will not let me fill in the rest of the ceiling.

I have tried to find solutions to this problem on the interwebz, but no one else seems to be having this particular problem. Anyone got an idea of what I may be doing wrong?

The CEILING, or the ROOF?

If it's the ceiling, all I can say is make sure you're using the right material. Just click and drag from one corner of the house to the other (assuming you have a square house. Even if you don't, just click and drag).

It's the ceiling - I'm trying to lay the ceiling for the first floor/ the floor for the second floor. As for the material I'm using: I went into build mode, clicked on the FLOOR/CEILING picture and used a random material from the materials that popped up from that. There didn't seem to be a distinction amongst those options, so idk if it's the material I'm using...

It sounds like the game believes your walls aren't fully enclosed. When you create a rectangle room of any size you can automatically put 2nd flooring anywhere within that rectangle. But if there's a hole in your rectangle somewhere the game won't think it's a "room" and won't let you place 2nd flooring anywhere except where the walls/columns are.

Glad you got it sorted, a theory I had thats not mentioned here is supports, some people like myself make one big area and then add the inner walls later, thus making it a to bigger area to support the 1st floor or cellings

Hmm.. Idk if the Steam version has this or not but make sure tha auto-roof or something like that is on, it will automatically build a roof for you, you just pick the style
